do you ever have those days when you're just plain tired?

Regina Brett — 'No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.'

Most of the time I am an "up and at 'em" kind of gal. I go to work when I need to, I don't take sick days unless I'm on my death bed, I turn up when I say I will and I don't mind any of it. Then there is the occasional day when I reach the point where I've had enough and I'm tired of being little Mary Sunshine.

I've now decided to accept and celebrate those days rather than feeling bad about them or guilty about it all. There will always be a day here or there when I just get tired of getting up, dressing up and showing up. There will be a day here or there when I just want to slouch around and not do much and maybe even eat unhealthy snacks while I'm at it!

I'm now officially referring to the tired days as Pyjama/Pajama (depending on your nationality) Days - these are the days when I will sleep in, have a shower and then put my jammies back on and kick back and have a "me" day. I won't go out, I won't make any commitments to anyone and I will laze around reading books, blog posts and maybe a magazine if I have one. I might even watch a bit of daytime TV and mutter to myself about how there is nothing on that's worth watching!

In this busy world we live in I think it's good to admit that you're a little tired of it all sometimes and to stop, breathe, smell a rose or two (if you feel like leaving the comfort of the couch) and just have a little bit of head space freed up again. I'm not an advocate of doing this when you should be at work or some other commitment, but if you can hang out for your day off - then make it a true day off and chill out.

I have a picture in my head of an elegant woman lounging around in her lovely matching sleepwear/ leisurewear outfit (I have a Pinterest board that features how I think the elegant, lounging me would look like in my dreams). I'm a lot less elegant than that in real life and I don't co-ordinate at all - but that's part of Pyjama Day - not giving a hoot about appearance - just relaxing and not participating in the hustle and bustle of this busy world - taking a day to accept I'm tired.......and to get over it and move on tomorrow.

  3. This is me on any given day Leanne. :) If I haven't committed to something or someone and I have no errands to run, it's pajamas all the way for me or lounge wear, my lounge wear is more acceptable clothing just in case someone pops in. :) - Good for you for no guilt! You absolutely shouldn't be feeling that! Here's to more guilt free pajama days ahead! :D

  6. We all have limits - and it is important to recognize them! Your suggestion is awfully tempting today, although I won't abandon my other plans. It is grey and rainy outside, just the kind of day that would be perfect to curl up with a good book!

    1. I love it when I have nothing planned on that sort of day - so nice to be inside listening to the rain on the roof (rather than running through it to get to where I'm going!)

  8. O love pajama days and think we should allow allow ourselves to have them once in a while! With kids, I don't always get to choose which days become pajama days, but I am fortunate enough to get one, I refuse to let myself feel guilty about it. :-)

  9. Love it!! We all need a mental health day, especially in this world where being "busy" is celebrated. We all deserve a pajama day every once in a while to recharge our batteries.

  11. I have many pajama days because my company makes pajamas and that is what I am in until I have to leave my house and home office! In the spirit of the kind of pajama day you are talking about, I want, need it occasionally too. Hey it should be easy for me, I am already dressed for it!

    1. I think feeling guilty kind of adds to it - it makes you realize how infrequently we take a break and how deserving of it we are!
