when being flashed is not what I expected

detour signs and speed camera flashes
cold rainy winters I wish would be spring
Not feeling happy with a few of these things

With apologies to Julie Andrews - I have been humming this over and over in my head since last week when I took my usual route to the shops for the weekly grocery grind. There are a couple of routes I could take, but I have a tried and true way and just as I came to the main intersection, lo and behold there was a big Road Closed sign and a meandering detour that was a little annoyance to add to my day.

Being the inventive and pragmatic person I am, I decided to take the other way home and proceeded merrily along rejoicing that I wasn't stuck behind a slow driver. I was cold and hungry and looking forward to getting home and settling in for the afternoon. Everyone knows that Karma has a habit of sneaking up on you when you least expect it and WHAM she got me! Big shiny flash right between the eyes and the multanova speed camera took ownership of my hard earned savings. Poop! (actually I have to admit to saying a little worse than Poop! at the time but we won't go there.)

I was very tempted to turn around and crush it like a bug. But I didn't think that would be very Christian of me.......and I didn't want to become someone's "sweet thang" in the women's prison - I'm a bit pathetic like that!

I just wanted to crush it like the bug it was!
So I drove miserably home and confessed to my husband - who was much more understanding than I would have been in the reversal of circumstances. He patted me and gave me a hug and reminded me that it was a very rare occurrence and it would all be okay. I fumed for a bit longer to make myself feel better and then accepted my fate (I reminded myself several times of the innumerable times I've sped and not been caught and that helped a little.)

So I'll keep singing about girls in white sashes and speed camera flashes and wait for the ticket to arrive in the mail - then I get to feel the pain all over again. What can I say? Poop!

  1. The rain makes us appreciate the sunshine even more. At least it was a sprinkle. It could have been a flood.

  4. I hate when that happens. It's been a few years since I've driven, but I've been with hubby a few times and he's gotten them. Not by a camera though except for not stopping through a toll both...um six different times in one day. Six dollars and 20 cents in tolls cost us $123.20. My GPS kept saying stay left and that was a lane for some kind of pass that I didn't have. Mistakes happen.

    1. I know Rena - I am so annoyed with myself (although I am relieved it wasn't the added embarrassment of a policeman pulling me over with flashing lights and sirens!)

  5. Oh I was caught this year Leanne and I was so annoyed with myself not to mention that there were about 20 others caught as well. It was near a school and was not signed properly - no excuse but annoying. You are in good company :) Thanks for sharing your experience with us at #WednesdaysWisdom have a lovely day!

  6. Awww hugs, Leanne! I am sorry I laughed. I once got stopped by the traffic cops and issued a ticket for which I had no money - they kept my vehicle until I returned with the cash - and gave me a receipt. But it turned out they were just on their rounds to make extra income because the ticket had nothing to do with what they accused me of! :D Everyone had a good laugh though!

  10. It happened to me too. i was not concentrating at all and turned into a bus lane (big fat sign glaring in front of my eyes). I wanted to hide, but there was a traffic warden standing there ready to pounce on me. It was the heaviest fine I had received. Ugh.

  12. Oh No! I hate the way they hide these cameras and yes we do have speed limits but....... I am so lucky not to have been pinged as my little car loves to speed!

  13. I can't say I know what that feels like cause I don't drive. But I do know what it feels like for something poopy to happen when you're already not feeling so hot. Hope the ticket isn't too steep!!!
