5 OF MY LESSER SUPERPOWERS

Five Of My Lesser Superpowers - do you have superpowers that you haven't even noticed?

LESSER SUPERPOWERS

On Monday I talked about my Secret Superpowers and while I was writing about them I realized I had a few minor ones that I could share in today's Five Things Friday post. I'm not sure that everyone would consider them Superpowers, but they don't apply to everyone on the planet, so I'm claiming them as mine. So here we go with Five Lesser Superpowers that I manifest regularly.

1. A SONG FOR EVERY OCCASION

Do you have a song at the ready? I can find one that suits most occasions

This drives my husband crazy on a regular basis - it only takes a couple of random words in a conversation and it will remind me of a song - which of course I have to burst straight into - it's a shame my singing voice doesn't match my talent for finding the song in the first place. Well, it is only a Lesser Superpower afterall!

2. FORGETTING MOVIE PLOTS

I'm not sure what it is in my brain that refuses to remember movie and book plots. I can be halfway through a movie or a novel and have some faint inkling that I may have seen/read it before but I still don't know what will happen at the end. This is actually a bonus because it means everything is new again for me - my husband will say "remember this part where....." and I stop him so he doesn't spoil it for me because I have no recollection whatsoever of having seen it before.

3. COLLECTING RANDOM BRUISES

my leg after coming off the motorbike in 2007 - looks worse than it feels

For those who bruise easily this may not be seen as a Superpower, but for other "normal" people it is a sight to behold. I can have several bruises on any given day and have no idea how I managed to get them. Often I've bumped into something earlier on, it didn't particularly hurt, but later a bruise magically appears to remind me of it.

Although my biggest claim to fame was a bruise to remember - several years ago I came off a motorbike and hit my knee on the road. First my knee swelled up, and then the bruising started. I've included a photo of my leg (taken a few days later) to impress you with this Superpower.

4. SEEING 411 EVERYWHERE

My birthday is the 4th of November (411) and the funny thing is that I can be quietly going about my business when the number 411 will just randomly pop up. I can glance at a digital clock or my computer and it will be 4:11pm, a bus with the number 411 will go past, I'll be reading a book and realize I'm on page 411, the list goes on. It's a bizarre and fairly meaningless Superpower but one that never ceases to surprise me.

5. COFFEE BEFORE BED

Can you drink coffee before bed? It's one of my Lesser Superpowers

I think my claim to fame here is that I can drink coffee in the hours leading up to bedtime and it doesn't affect my ability to fall asleep. 99.5% (a completely made up statistic) of Midlifers can't even look at coffee in the evening without it keeping them awake for half the night. Not me, I have my usual evening cuppa and head off to bed without a care in the world - it might catch up with me one day and I'll be drinking hot chocolate in my dotage - but for now it's coffee all the way baby!

Do you have any minor Superpowers or am I the only one?

  1. I am in awe (and slightly jealous) of #5. Hmmm . . . none of my superpowers even comes close to that one.

  2. I love your list Leanne. That's some bruise though!! Ouch. I can relate to your 4/11 story. My birthday is 12 December so I'm 12/12. In 2013 I set my alarm for 12.12pm and took a photo at 12.12 on 12/12/12. Made my day

    1. It's funny how little things like that really tickle our fancy isn't it Deb? I get a buzz everytime I jag a 411 somewhere - anything that gives me a smile I will hold to as a superpower!

  3. Love this! You had me at your title...I hopped right over from #FridayFrivolity. As for myself, if pressed to demonstrate a hidden talent (e.g., a lesser superpower), I can stand on my head. ;)

    1. Standing on your head definitely rates as a Superpower Elizabeth - I can't tell you how many years have gone by since I could do that - and one day I'll share my cartwheel story - and the disaster of finding out my flexibility wasn't what it was when I was in my teens!

    1. I think it's an amazing gift to be able to burst into song at the drop of a hat - what's not to love about singing whenever you get a little bit of inspiration?

  5. The song for every occasion thing? So me!! I love that and yes, it drives my husband crazy, too. I can also find a Steel Magnolias quote for every occasion which he really hates because he cant' stand the movie. :D
    That is some bruise!
Coffee before bed doesn't keep me up from caffeine. But I do find the older I get the more it makes my stomach feel too acidy - or something.

    1. Lisa - we may be soul mates :) and our husbands could be consoling each other over the "joy" of having a wife burst into song at random moments :) If I could remember movie plots I could probably brush up on my movie quotes - looks like I'll have to leave that one to you!

  6. I am a random singer too! I can (and do!) chime in with a song for any occasion. I also make up my own lyrics to well known tunes. My kids took it for granted but Miss 20 tells me her partner's family definitely don't sing all the time. Weird!!!

    1. Sometimes I wonder if it's a "church thing" where singing is considered quite normal - not as many people randomly burst into song like they used to - I think singing in church every Sunday desensitizes you to singing anywhere and anyhow - they don't know what they're missing!

  7. Love this! I collect random bruises as well. We should start a support group! We could talk over what we think we might have bumped into or dropped on ourselves. Lol.

    1. I like the idea of the Random Bruise Society - we could exchange photos and ask each other where we thought that randome bruise arose from. Worth thinking about I'm sure :)
