WHY MIDLIFE'S FABULOUS - THE "X" FACTOR

The A-Z Challenge ~ Why Midlife's Fabulous ~ The "X" Factor

MIDLIFER "A" OR MIDLIFER "B"?

There are two types of Midlifer - those who are old before their time, grumpy and cranky, and always finding fault (they even have TV programs based on "Grumpy Old Men" and "Grumpy Old Women" - and these people aren't old - they're in Midlife!) Then there are those Midlifers who are vibrant, and busy, and involved, and smiling, and celebrating life - they have what I call "The "X" Factor".

DON'T BE A RAIN CLOUD

It's a no-brainer to work out which type of person I want to be in Midlife. I wrote a post a while back on Light Suckers - these are people who suck the joy and life out of a room just by opening their mouths and starting on their litany of complaints. Nobody - and I mean nobody - wants to be around a misery guts who is full of how hard done by they are and who can't see the silver lining right in front of them.

CHOOSE JOY

The secret to the "X" Factor is how you choose to view life - it's always about choice. It's about looking for, and celebrating the joyful moments - morning coffee, a hug from someone we love (give one if none are being offered), a friendly smile, a shared laugh, a lick from our dog or a nuzzle from our cat, a text from our child who lives away from home, a shaft of sunlight in just the right spot, finding something we love on sale, receiving a compliment (remember to say thank you!), chocolate, baby smiles, cheerful greetings, I could keep going forever if I'm not careful.

I want to embrace it all and have my smile get wider and my sense of being blessed increase with every joyful encounter - that's the "X" Factor at work! Think about the little things you get joy from and leave them in the comments - I'd love to have a few more examples to add to my list.

life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful

  1. What a lovely uplifting blog post. Yes, must be careful not to be light sucker. I sometime felt that while doing the a to z challenge because my theme is about divorce. Can't be all light and humour all the time if you're writing about divorce. But it was hard to keep the balance.
I loved these lines of yours - morning coffee, a hug from someone we love (give one if none are being offered), a friendly smile, a shared laugh, a lick from our dog or a nuzzle from our cat, a text from our child who lives away from home, a shaft of sunlight in just the right spot, finding something we love on sale, receiving a compliment (remember to say thank you!), chocolate, baby smiles, cheerful greetings.
    Just wonderful.

  2. Oh my goodness, yes!!! I know people my age and younger who are totally looking for reasons to complain! So sad. We all have an amount of time to spend on this earth, and we should use our time to do meaningful things and be happy.
There's a saying about how many muscles are needed for a grumpy face (a lot) versus a smile (only a few), so save your energy and smile!!!

  4. Love this, Leanne. I know people that considered themselves old in their 30's! I can't imagine going through life like that. I love those with the x factor and find myself drawn to them. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. Oh I hear you on the grumpy cantekareous peeps who really suck out the sunshine of the day; I agree with you with being full of life and celebrating life. Thanking universe for my joys and seeing happinesses in little things is what I am aiming for my life. With that thought, I easily cut out peeps who bring me down, no matter who they are and what they think about me after it!!! Cheers Leanne on a very happy and positive post!!!
