5 QUOTES ABOUT REAL LOVE

Five Things Friday ~ 5 Quotes about what Real Love is all about

WHAT IS "REAL" LOVE?

This week's theme seems to be about love (Valentine's Day inspires me!) and how, despite what the greeting cards tell us, it's not always all hearts and flowers. Real, deep, honest, long term love is so much more than that. Midlife love has weathered a multitude of storms, it has faced crises and survived, it has had heady moments and times of drought and sadness. What makes it Real is the fact that it has come through stronger and more resilient from taking the hard knocks.

Real love is about connecting with and caring about a person who you are doing life with long term. Someone who has your back, who loves you despite your faults, and who will be there at the end of the day to hold your hand and give you a hug when you need one. At the same time, it is staying true to who you intrinsically are and respecting each other's differences along the way.

That being said, here are five quotes that reflect real, long term love:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

  1. I love all of these Leanne and I'm lucky to have a husband who loves me the way he does. Life and love aren't perfect and certainly we can't go through life looking at our relationship through rose-coloured glasses. Love looks past our weaknesses and faults and sees the true person that we are. Pinned. xx

  3. I love these, but there is one sentence that really struck a chord with me. "...a natural connection where my soul is able to recognize a feeling of home in another." That is what I have with my husband of almost 26 years.

  4. Having just celebrated Valentine's Day, these quotes about real love are timely. As a "mature" person, I think the fifth quote is quite relevant. It's important to stay true to yourself.

  10. Beautiful quotes Leanne. One of my fave quotes on love is from 1 Corinthians 13:7 in the Living Bible: If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him ... the "always believe in him" part really helped me many years ago when I was struggling with jealousy (for no good reason).

    1. That's a fantastic translation Janet - really relevant to our times isn't it? There is nothing more loving than someone trusting their spouse and being prepared to defend them because you believe in them.

  11. I like all the quotes, can't pick a fav. I know if you find true love, real love, you still gotta hang on and work thru everything. I agree it's not always hearts and flowers. Thanks Leanne from Grammy Dee, #BloggingGrandmothers #LinkUp #BlogParty, social media shared.

    1. That's why real love is so special isn't it Dee? You are in it for the tough times as well as the easy times - romantic love often bails out when it isn't all smooth sailing. Real love is in it for the long term.
