IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE

If we were having coffee these are a few things I'd be sharing from Easter and the rest of the lovely month of April. I always enjoy a good 'Taking Stock' blog post, so I hope you'll humour me and sit a while as I share my news. There's nothing like a virtual cuppa and a chat, and I have lots to share from the last few weeks - including an Easter family visit.

CHOOSING TO BE HAPPY AND HOPEFUL

Choose to be happy despite your circumstances and here's why it works. Happiness is always a choice. Don't let you circumstances or the moods of the people around you, steal your joy. #happiness #choice

HAPPINESS IS ALWAYS OUR CHOICE

We're onto "H" in the "List of More" and today it's about choosing to be happy, not waiting for happiness to magically descend upon us. For far too long I based my happiness on the people around me (if they were happy then I was happy), and on my situation (if things were good then I was happy). It never occured to me that the power of happiness was in my own hands.

ASKING THE BIG QUESTION - WHERE TO FROM HERE?

It's time to deal with some of the big questions. Where to from here? What's next? Who am I? Who do I want to be?

MY LIFE HAS CHANGED AND QUESTIONS ARISE

Work has been a huge part of my adult life - I've been in the workforce for 40+ years, only stopping to have our children before heading back to the grindstone. Now that I've left my job, the big questions arise - Where to from here? What do I do next? How do I define myself without a job title? Who am I and who do I want to become? I don't think I'm alone in asking these questions because I've heard variations of them from other Midlife women. So the question I'm asking today centres around "Where to from here?"

MY TOP 5 MIDLIFE QUOTES #3

Each Saturday throughout 2020 I'll be sharing my top 5 Midlife quotes for the week. Funny, inspiring, upbeat, thoughtful - I'll be sharing whatever speaks to my heart. #lifequotes

INTRO

Last year I was sharing snippets from the internet, this year I'm going to share my top 5 quotes I find each week that apply to Midlife and the journey we're all on together. I hope you enjoy them. I'd love you to Pin them or save them or share them if any speak to your heart.

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" in my opinion, a quote can speak a thousand words in a sentence or two. So here we go....

INTRO

Happy Easter everyone - I hope you're enjoying the holiday, eating Easter eggs, or whatever else you do to celebrate this lovely time of the year. Here's the latest little snippets from all over the place that caught my eye and I thought were worth sharing. I hope you enjoy them too - feel free to pin them or share them with other people if they resonate with you. I've turned off the comments on these posts because they're just a fun Saturday post to look at, enjoy and move on - hopefully with a smile on your face or with something to think about.

WHAT CAUSES STRESS IN MIDLIFE?

What causes stress in Midlife? Maybe it's trying to do or be something that is in conflict with our true self? #stress #midlife

WHEN STRESS IS YOUR NEW NORMAL

I do a LOT of pinning - in fact, I think I might actually be a bit of a Pinaholic. What I notice when I'm pinning quotes is that I have a run on a particular theme and that theme will always reflect what's going on in my life. For the last few months my Pinterest board called Quotes ~ Stress has received a lot of pins about stress, what it does to us, who causes it, and how to cope with it. So I thought I should write about Midlife Stress today because it's so much on my mind.

SHOWING MORE GRACE AND GRATITUDE

Acting graciously allows us to let go of judgement and expectation and that in turn allows room for gratitude for all that we have in our lives. #grace #gratitude

DISCOVERING GRACE AND EXPRESSING GRATITUDE

We're onto "G" in the "List of More" and today I want to talk about giving Grace to others and to ourselves. Offering Grace allows kindness and forgiveness into our lives and that leads to my other "G" for today - Gratitude. Acting graciously helps us to let go of judgement and expectation and that in turn gives more room for gratitude for all that we have in our lives. So let's look at how to be more gracious today.

GETTING FIT AT THE SENIOR CITS

When it comes to getting fit, if you're over 50 take a look at your local Senior Citizens Centre - they offer much more than you realize.

I’M BASICALLY A BIT OF A SLUGGARD

Before we start talking about being active, I have a confession to make. Unlike Sue (the Queen of Fitness), I’m a bit of a lay-about. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a sleep-in, time on my laptop, reading a good book, colouring, jigsaws, and coffee with friends. If you look carefully at that list, all of them involve sitting on my bottom and very little movement (other than lifting my coffee cup or turning a page).

I realized several years ago that Midlife means I can’t maintain that very pleasant routine without adding weight. Unfortunately, my Midlife metabolism isn’t as robust as it was in my younger days. So, with that in mind I started a morning walk routine where I do a lap of the neighbourhood (about 2.5km) each day and have maintained that for six or seven years now, but I was still losing the battle and the occasional kilogram would creep on.

6 THINGS TO QUIT RIGHT NOW FOR A BETTER LIFE

If you'd like to start making some positive changes here are 6 that would be a great place for you to start. #quit #change #midlife #succeed

WHAT WE NEED TO QUIT THIS YEAR

Have you noticed that there are things we all do that hold us back and stop us living our best lives? I see the same negative actions creeping into our lives over and over again. I read about women who are struggling with the same issues that I've struggled with and today I'm writing about 6 things that I've been working at quitting this year. I've actually been working on some of them for a while now, but I'm drilling down on these six this year and into the future.

If you'd like to start making some positive changes in the year ahead, perhaps the 6 I'm talking about today would be a great place for you to start too. So without further introduction, here are 6 things I'm quitting right now.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE

It's time to have a coffee and a chat - I'll tell you all about what's been happening in my world this month #ifwewerehavingcoffee #midlife

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE

If we were having coffee these are a few things I'd be sharing from the lovely month of March. I always enjoy a good 'Taking Stock' blog post, so I hope you'll humour me and sit a while as I share my news. There's nothing like a virtual cuppa and a chat, so let's kick off April by having a look back at what went on in my world during March.
