WISHES FOR CHRISTMAS AND THE YEAR AHEAD

I hope you live lightly and shine brightly in the year ahead

MY CHRISTMAS WISHES

I can't believe it's Christmas in a week's time! Where has the year gone?! That being said, it's been a wonderful year for me. I feel like I got my "groove back" and each month has just made me appreciate Midlife even more.

I came across a quote that summed up my #WOTY (Live Lightly) and it's what I wish for myself and for everyone who pops in here for a visit....

I hope you do all that this quote suggests in the lead up to Christmas, and that you don't allow the consumerism of our society to take away from the wonder and joy of the Christmas season.

I hope you Live Lightly and shine brightly

As well as the quote's wishes...

I hope you step back from the busyness and find time to sing along to a Christmas carol (even if it's in the shopping centre aisle!)

I hope you have loved ones to hug and kiss, and share some of the warmth of Christmas with.

I hope you share your smile with others to give them a bright spot in their day.

I hope you pause every now and then, and breathe, and know how blessed you are to be alive and to have a new year to look forward to.

And I truly hope you live lighter and shine brighter - it's such a wonderful time of life.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

This is my last post for 2023 and I'm looking forward to our "kids" and grandgirls visiting on Boxing Day, then a quiet New Year... and I'm already mulling over my choices for my next Word Of The Year. I'll be back on January 1st with whatever word inspires me, and I hope you'll pop in for a visit.

In the meantime - have a wonderful Christmas full of blessings, love, family time, and whatever makes your heart and soul smile.  xxx

I hope you live lightly and shine brightly in the year ahead

    1. Thank you so much for your wishes and for looking forward to my #WOTY - it was a bit of a tussle trying to find the right one - and I think I've finally nailed it. Have a great Christmas and I'll see you on the 1st of January :)

  2. Best wishes for the Festive Season, Leanne. Enjoy your family get together on Boxing Day. We had ours yesterday and whilst it was chaotic and hectic with 10 adults and 7 children I loved every minute. x

    1. Hi Sue - I really enjoyed seeing all your Christmas photos pop up on Facebook - everyone looked like they were having a great time and you're lucky you had a keen photographer on hand to capture it all (something that we're sadly lacking in our family!) Have a great Christmas and I'll see you back on the blog in the new year. x

  3. Thanks for your lovely wishes Leanne and I hope you enjoy your grandgirls and family visit on Boxing Day. You've had a great year, surgeris aside, so I hope 2024 will be just as good for you x

    1. Hi Deb - it's nice to have the surgeries behind me (and I hope to not cross the threshold of a hospital again for a long time!) It's been a very good year of working through the whole retirement thing and finally settling into it properly and "owning" it (for want of a better word). I'm looking forward to next year and also to seeing your family pics pop up on FB over Christmas. x

  4. Happy Christmas Leanne and thank you for another year of wonderful blogging Very thought provoking and wise and interesting. I always read but rarely comment. I’ve loved the living lightly concept and all that it has meant for you. I’ve found it inspirational actually and have tried to take it on board myself. I hope you and your family have a happy healthy 2024 !

    1. Hi Gillie - I'm so glad you enjoy what I blog about - it's a bit random at times because it's usually about something that's caught my attention, or that's happened in my world. Living Lightly was good for me this year - taking the pressure off myself and learning to just "be". I'm glad you found it helpful too. I have a different word for 2024 after tossing several around and discarding them, it's a bit "out there" but the more I think about it, the more right it feels. Have a great Christmas and I'll see you on January 1st for my new Word. x

  5. HI Leanne - Thank you for another wonderful post. I LOVE the quote. Something to live by now and always. Things have been very stressful this November and December as my Beloved passed away a year ago this December and tomorrow marks the day of the funerals. At the moment I find it hard to keep my head above water. I am exhausted. Christmas can be a very difficult time for those of us who lost a dear one. I decorated the house (too much) and I listen to Christmas carols and look at the lights but my spirits are low and that's ok. Wishing you a peaceful and heathy holiday season!xox

    1. Hi Yvonne, I am sorry for your loss. I lost my mom five years ago and know that feeling of wanting to live life "normally " but you are just not up to it. I will say that you should not withhold your feelings. If you want to cry, cry. If you want to laugh, laugh. It's always easier said than done but I can honestly say only you know how to properly mourn your loved one. Don't let anyone give you a timetable. Best wishes for Christmas and New Year. God Bless!!

    2. Hi Yvonne - thinking of you and sending you a hug across the miles. Your heart must be breaking atm and I agree with the other comment above that you need to let yourself feel all the sadness, but also grasp any sparks of joy that come your way. I always think that grief is in proportion to love - the more you loved, the more you grieve. Hold on to knowing you had that great love and that Christmas is the time we remember God's great love for us and that he will be a comfort to us during times when we feel alone. Much love and Christmas blessings and the hope for a better 2024. xx

    1. Hi Elizabeth - I've loved having you visit each week and leave your thoughtful comments - it's what makes blogging feel so 'friendly'. Wishing you all the best for Christmas and I hope my #WOTY inspires others to think along the same lines that (finally) got me to choosing my new word for the year ahead. xx

  8. Leanne, I love the quote. I chuckled as I did ride with the soft top of my jeep open today, even if was only 60F outside, which is cold in Florida! Sun was shining and music was blaring. Merry Christmas & "see you" next year! Have a wonderful time with your family.

    2. Hi Pat - I can picture you grinning in that jeep - I always feel like that when I'm on my scooter buzzing along - you just feel more "in the moment" when you're exposed to the world around you, rather than being cocooned in a car. Have a great Christmas and I'll be following along with you in the year ahead! x

  9. Leanne, thank you for these beautiful Christmas wishes. I aspire to make all of them come true - except for 'sing at the top of my lungs'. My inner Rock Star says YES, but the ears of the folks around me say PLEASE NO. Merry Christmas

    1. Hi Suzanne - you just need to choose where you do that singing - I'm the world's worst singer, but at home or in the car I'll belt it out if a favourite comes on. Nobody is tortured and I get the fun of doing a little song or even a groove or two (I'm also the world's worst dancer!) Merry Christmas - and lets both belt out a Christmas tune to celebrate. xx

  10. Leanne - thank you so much for sharing the wonderful poem. It is an excellent reminder of how to get through every day of every year. Best wishes to you and your family for happy and festive Boxing Day celebration. Littles make it all that much better!! I always enjoy your posts; they give me pause for thought and make me look at things a little more closely. (Sorry I do not more often!) Here's to the new year, and your 2024 woty - we all can't wait to see your Jan 1 post! Hugs from the Midwest!!

    1. Hi Kristine and a very merry Christmas to you and your family (and your beautifully decorated home!) I hope you have a lovely Christmas season too and I'm glad you'll be back for my #WOTY - I'm hoping it encourages others - once I decided on it, it's been in my head a lot and reminding me about what's really important. See you on Jan 1st xx

  11. Lovely post Leanne. I'm grateful for your continuedn presence as a fellow blogger even though I moved to a new medium. 2023 has been a BIG year for us with more changes than I can remember but we are very glad to be back in Sydney. Despite the re-emergence of a very nasty covid strain which found us both this past week (we had been covid free and with 6 vaccinations in our system) we are hopeful of making Christmas Day lunch at our daughter's. She now lives 5 minutes away and ALL of our grandkids are going to be there too. Many thanks for your on-line friendship and care. Warm wishes across the continent to you and yours. Denyse

    1. Hi Denyse - I'm so pleased you're happy and settled and (nearly) covid free. 5 mins to your daughter's place sounds lovely. Our family is doing the 2 hour drive on Boxing Day - and that will probably continue (or us driving to them) for the foreseeable future. 5 mins sounds lovely in comparison. Looking forward to staying in touch next year and your new medium seems to be working well for you - and probably saving you some money in the process (I love blogging for free!) Merry Christmas!

    1. Hi Jen - I've missed seeing you in the blogosphere too - I'm not attending any of the link parties anymore, so am losing contact with lots of people - but it is what it is, and we do what feels like the right fit don't we? See you next year and maybe you'll be doing a bit of midlife stuff in the mix. Merry Christmas x
