TOTALLY ADDICTED TO PINTEREST - I'M A PINAHOLIC!

WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU'RE ADDICTED

A scary thing happened to me a while ago......without being aware it was happening, I became addicted to Pinterest! What started out as somewhere to collect a few apt quotes and pretty pictures (rather than filling up my facebook feed) has now proceeded to take over part of my life.

I know people who use Pinterest as a place to plan their weddings or compile their catering recipes. Others who have boards dedicated to outfits they'd look great in or things they want to decorate their houses with eventually. But not me! Oh no!! I'm completely random - my 'couple of quotes boards' have grown into multiple quotes boards, couture gowns boards, a random goldfish board, cute kittens (there are a lot of them on the internet!), midlife blog boards, and sunsets etc etc. I have pins upon pins upon pins - over 30,000 of them.......I am an addict!

Pinterest makes me feel like I have genuine interests, instead of just an internet addiction and no social life.

I'M A MINIMALIST HOARDER

I guess it suits those personality traits that I've tried to fight for more years than I can count - I come from a family of collectors and I've managed to resist the collecting bug all my life - until now. Along comes Pinterest and I now have a very large pool that I can fish in and collect from. One thing leads to another and one board becomes two and before you know it I'm up to about 50 boards! At the same time, it also suits my need to be ordered and tidy - my boards are in alphabetical order (as they should be!) and I regularly skim through them to delete any double-ups. I hate clutter so it also means I don't have to have anything physical to keep dusted and tidy. Electronic hoarding at it's finest!

Thank you, Pinterest, for satisfying my hoarding tendencies without messing up my house

FEELING OWNERSHIP OF THINGS THAT AREN'T EVEN MINE

It also shows how much time I have now that I'm an empty nester. I have time to keep my house clean, go to work, cook meals, visit friends and still Pin for hours every week. It is quite a rewarding experience and I get a real buzz if someone re-pins something of mine. But I must also admit to getting a little ticked off when someone goes in and pins 20 or so of my pins and then moves on without a blink. It's like buying someone's stamp collection, picking it to pieces, keeping a large chunk and claiming it as your own collection. I felt a lot better when I saw that others have included Pin etiquette about what is acceptable in re-pinning and what is over the top.

Then there are the people who follow my boards. I LOVE it when someone follows me - it feels like a validation of my taste, or my interests or my thoughts. I am amazed at people who have thousands of followers - mind you, I'm amazed I have any followers at all......and regularly tell my poor husband how loved I feel by these total strangers!

COME JOIN ME IN MY LOVE OF ALL THINGS PRETTY

I'm the only Leanne|crestingthehill on Pinterest, so look me up if you're a fellow addict and we can share the Pinterest love. I just wish they'd let me do Pinterest for a living - I'd be happy to be paid to look at and pin pretty pictures all day long.

It's confession time - I'm totally addicted to Pinterest and I think I may even be a Pinaholic! #pinterest #pinning

  2. I have to agree with Carla although I guess I should be looking for a 12 step program as well. I have over 104 boards although a lot of them are community boards that I've been added to. I love Pinterest!

    1. Me too Rena - I have deleted about 10 boards over time because it was getting a little bit ridiculous - and I just realized that I've passed 15,000 pins - oh dear.....

    1. Hi Betty - people use it for different things - lots of people use it for storing links to things they want to look at later, some use it like a giant pinup board of pictures they like (that would be me!) and others use it to save recipes etc - it's great fun if you like browsing the i/net :)

  6. I need to do some housekeeping on my Pinterest Boards, but I also have found it a very fun and handy tool. Love this post Leanne! And your suggestion to make boards alphabetical (mine currently are not!)

    1. They have to be alphabetical if you are a little OCD like me Susan - I do put my blog ones first though because they are my favourites :)

  7. I used to hear people talk about how they were addicted to Pinterest. I wasn't interested in joining for a while, but then I succumbed, and YES...it can be quite addictive. Now, I'm pleased to say that I can stop and walk away from the computer ;) And what about getting lost deeper and deeper into Pinland...you start by clicking on a pin, then other pins come up and one peeks your fancy so you click on that, and then another and another, and before you realize it, you are miles from your original pin, and you're asking, "Where did I start from?"

Thank you for sharing your Pinterest journey, and have a fun day,

    Marianne

    1. I know how you feel Marianne - it's a bit like Wiki - you start at one article and before you know it you are in the middle of the Russian revolution and wondering how you got there :)
