Most of the time I am an "up and at 'em" kind of gal. I go to work when I need to, I don't take sick days unless I'm on my death bed, I turn up when I say I will and I don't mind any of it. Then there is the occasional day when I reach the point where I've had enough and I'm tired of being little Mary Sunshine.
I'm now officially referring to the tired days as Pyjama/Pajama (depending on your nationality) Days - these are the days when I will sleep in, have a shower and then put my jammies back on and kick back and have a "me" day. I won't go out, I won't make any commitments to anyone and I will laze around reading books, blog posts and maybe a magazine if I have one. I might even watch a bit of daytime TV and mutter to myself about how there is nothing on that's worth watching!
In this busy world we live in I think it's good to admit that you're a little tired of it all sometimes and to stop, breathe, smell a rose or two (if you feel like leaving the comfort of the couch) and just have a little bit of head space freed up again. I'm not an advocate of doing this when you should be at work or some other commitment, but if you can hang out for your day off - then make it a true day off and chill out.
I have a picture in my head of an elegant woman lounging around in her lovely matching sleepwear/ leisurewear outfit (I have a Pinterest board that features how I think the elegant, lounging me would look like in my dreams). I'm a lot less elegant than that in real life and I don't co-ordinate at all - but that's part of Pyjama Day - not giving a hoot about appearance - just relaxing and not participating in the hustle and bustle of this busy world - taking a day to accept I'm tired.......and to get over it and move on tomorrow.
Pyjama/Pajama Day in real life |
This post was part of the #1word challenge link up - this week's word was "tired"
Good for you, Leanne. I have pyjama days too - and try not to feel guilty about them - it's a work in progress (as am I!).
ReplyDeleteI tried to not need them, but now that I've allowed myself a couple, I really enjoy having a no responsibility day now and then :)
DeleteI agree with you Leanne and even I will have those sulky days when I don't go out, just read books and sleep a lot. It's very refreshing though :-)
ReplyDeleteI think a day here and there is a luxury we're allowed to have Mahathi - just not too often!
DeleteThis is me on any given day Leanne. :) If I haven't committed to something or someone and I have no errands to run, it's pajamas all the way for me or lounge wear, my lounge wear is more acceptable clothing just in case someone pops in. :) - Good for you for no guilt! You absolutely shouldn't be feeling that! Here's to more guilt free pajama days ahead! :D
ReplyDeleteHi Mimi - I have to admit to many a yoga pants day - pajama day takes it to the next level when I hope nobody knocks on the door!
DeleteI think we all need pajama days every so often and admit if it is raining or just miserable weather on a a weekday every so often we just take advantage of it and do just that here. But still glad you are doing this for yourself more and you definitely are deserving of it! :)
ReplyDeletethanks Janine - it's nice to know others are out there having a "rest" day too sometimes :)
DeleteOh, this resonates with me! I absolutely agree that we nee to slow down once in a while and have a ME day. I don't even do the shower. :)
ReplyDeletethe shower makes me feel like I achieved something for the day :)
DeleteWe all have limits - and it is important to recognize them! Your suggestion is awfully tempting today, although I won't abandon my other plans. It is grey and rainy outside, just the kind of day that would be perfect to curl up with a good book!
ReplyDeleteI love it when I have nothing planned on that sort of day - so nice to be inside listening to the rain on the roof (rather than running through it to get to where I'm going!)
DeleteA pajama day sounds lovely. Might take you up on this suggestion!
ReplyDeleteit's a nice way to chill and it stops you going out because you don't want to have to get changed!
DeleteO love pajama days and think we should allow allow ourselves to have them once in a while! With kids, I don't always get to choose which days become pajama days, but I am fortunate enough to get one, I refuse to let myself feel guilty about it. :-)
ReplyDeleteGuilt has no place in pajama day Lisa - that is one of the lessons I've had to learn!
DeleteLove it!! We all need a mental health day, especially in this world where being "busy" is celebrated. We all deserve a pajama day every once in a while to recharge our batteries.
ReplyDeleteI went for a long time thinking I didn't need one Karen, but you are right - a recharge is vital!
DeleteI need a PJ day but it will be awhile before it happens and I would need my family to go on a vacation without me!! The thought is nice though!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing so well that you can't stop for a pj day just yet Pam - but maybe down the track you can find some of those gorgeous lounging satin pj's and swan around the house in them :)
DeleteI have many pajama days because my company makes pajamas and that is what I am in until I have to leave my house and home office! In the spirit of the kind of pajama day you are talking about, I want, need it occasionally too. Hey it should be easy for me, I am already dressed for it!
ReplyDeleteNow you need to up your game Haralee and take it to the next level of lounging in those lovely pajamas!
DeleteDefinitely! I'm on day 4 straight of watching the twins this week and tomorrow I am off so I have already decided that I am not doing anything, but hanging out on my laptop for the day getting some much needed fun work done! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend Rena and make sure you fit in some pajama time in there somewhere - if anyone deserves it, you do x
DeleteThat day is today. I just said so to M. Just tired this afternoon. But, we have a movie date, so off we go shortly!

can you sneak into the movies in your pj bottoms and slippers? ;)
DeleteI am getting better and better at this - but I still feel guilty sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI think feeling guilty kind of adds to it - it makes you realize how infrequently we take a break and how deserving of it we are!
