SHE JUST LET GO AND LET IT ALL BE

FINDING SOMETHING SPECIAL

A few weeks ago I came across a poem that spoke to my heart. It wasn't particularly "deep and meaningful", it didn't offer world shaking advice.....it didn't even rhyme! But it spoke to me and I've re-read it several times since and posted it on my Memory Board for posterity.

I figured that if I enjoyed it so much, other people might too and so I've included it below. I'm not going to add anything to it - other than the fact letting go has been a huge part of my Midlife journey and it really can be a lot easier than we make it out to be.

I've made a Pinnable image of it at the end for those who'd like to keep it for down the track and I'd love to know whether it resonated with you too?

SHE LET GO

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.

She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go. She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back. She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

In the space of letting go, she let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

    It's beautiful... and I was reminded of a Michael Leunig cartoon with the caption;
"Let it out, let it go, let it all unravel
Let it free and it can be a road on which to travel."

    1. I love how she didn't make a big deal of it - she just opened up and let go - something we could all learn to do more.

    1. I loved the flow of it and the whole idea that it's innately simple if we let it be that way.

  5. Such a feeling of relief when you just let go. That is how I see it. A weight is lifted and you fell energised rather than overwhelmed. Beautiful poem, Leanne. Xx

  6. I love it! I always smile to myself when people announce on facebook or twitter that they are taking a break from facebook or twitter. They're never gone long enough to affect anything. I've stopped announcing when I do things like that.

Letting go is a process. I do believe I'm letting go of more and more all the time, but it's a bit immeasurable, isn't it?

    1. I thought the same Red - and all the people I know who pray and pray and read their bible looking for a lightning bolt before they will accept that they are responsible for what they cling onto.

  8. Hardest thing to do but quite liberating once done. Letting go always reminds me of the Beatles song "Let it Be".

    1. I found it gave me a sense of the simplicity of it all - we tend to complicate too many things in life when it's so much easier to step back and open our tight little fists and see what happens.

  11. Letting go is a private process. If you announce or share it, you are not truly letting go. My thought, anyway. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. I agree Alana - the trouble is that a lot of people feel like they need to over share everything these days.

  12. Isn't that just perfect? I can honestly say that letting go of control, worry about other's choices and what the future will bring is freeing in ways I did not imagine. Yes, "A small smile came over my face. A light breeze blew through my. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore." Thank for reminding me to be thankful for making the choice to "Let it go!" )

    1. I loved that part of it - that once you release all that self inflicted stress and the tension that comes with it, there is such a sigh of relief and that light breeze - something we all need to experience more of.

  13. And that is IT! Thank you so much for sharing, Leanne. Letting go of "stuff" is so important as we move through our 50s and beyond - the breaking point eventually happens. Thank you again!

    1. I think we accumulate stuff along the way Lori Jo - physical, emotional, and mental dead weight that when we finally let go of it, there is such a sense of release and peace - the more we do that, the more we want to keep doing it!

  14. I do love it and can very much relate. I talked recently about the fact I often ask for advice but ignore it. I use it more to cement my own thoughts and I realise I'm becoming more confident in KNOWING what I want or don't want!

  16. Beautiful. More people in life just need to let go of what could of, should of been and accept what is - and this is the first step to moving forward.

    1. You're right - so many of us hold onto stuff in the hope that history will reinvent itself. Sometimes you just have to let all that baggage go and move on without the weight of it - so much lighter!

  20. I agree with all of the above Leanne, indeed I did I do I have - and again very recentlyI let go without fanfare or placing conditions so yes I reckon it does get easier . I noted because the universe answered me in such an unusual way how much my letting go affected those around me who could have held on to the situation having feelings about it but because I was free they moved quickly into the embrace of letting go of it as well . so we do it for ourselves but it also spins off encouraging others...

  22. Very nice poem, Leanne. Thanks for sharing. "Letting go" is a good attitude in life, which I constantly tell myself to adopt. But more than that, what I understood from the poem was the power of conviction of the lady about something that she was passionate about (that is, letting go, in this case). If we are convinced about what we need to do, there is just no looking right and left, or looking back. We just go ahead. Is it not?
