STARTING MY 60'S FEELING FABULOUS

Let's choose to be fabulous. I'm not talking about trying to be an over the top fashionista, or a flamboyant flamingo - just your very best self.

IT'S TIME TO CHOOSE MY #WOTY

Every January I choose a Word Of The Year (#WOTY) instead of making resolutions that I never bother keeping. I love finding a word that resonates with me and motivates me for the direction I want to head in for the rest of the year. Last year I chose "Cultivate" and that inspired me to proactively grow the areas of my life that needed some attention. It was a great word and felt very "intentional". This year I felt that I wanted to choose one that was a bit more fun, and one that would give me an energy boost when I thought of it.

So, after mullling it over for several weeks, I decided to go with my heart and chose my word from a post I wrote for my 60th birthday....

FEELING A LITTLE BIT FABULOUS

In November I wrote about turning 60 and the six "F" areas I wanted to focus on in the decade ahead - Family, Faith, Friendship, Freedom, Flexibility, and Fabulosity. My favourite one of all was the last on the list - Fabulosity - because it just made me smile. Nothing beats feeling Fabulous - that upbeat, self-confident, spring-in-your-step, take-on-the-world attitude that just makes you want to jump into the day with a positive, upbeat outlook.

So, I thought to myself....why not choose FABULOUS as my Word of the Year? Why not pick a word that encourages me to embrace the good things in life and to celebrate them and share that attitude with others? When people ask me how I am and expect to hear the usual reply we all give of "I'm fine", why not exchange that for "I'm just fabulous"? I can totally get onboard with that and it makes me want to get started right this second.

STARTING MY 60'S FEELING FABULOUS

When my Mum read my birthday post, it inspired her to buy me a birthday card with the image I've used for my header picture above. I just loved it and it was the perfect introduction to this next decade of life. Who doesn't want to be fabulous? I'm not talking about trying to be an over the top fashionista, or a flamboyant flamingo (although good on anyone who can pull that off!) I'm talking more about being my best self, choosing positivity and being a light spirit to be around. There's more than enough doom and gloom in the world - so why not offset it with a little bit of Fabulosity?

So, in the months ahead I'll be sharing posts on topics that inspire me and help make life feel a little more fabulous. I genuinely believe that having a fabulous life ultimately boils down to choosing your attitude. We live in unsettling times, and the circumstances around us are often out of our control, but we can always choose how we respond to them.

You cannot always choose your life circumstances, but you can always choose your thoughts and attitude toward those circumstances.

I'm choosing to look on the bright side and not let the darkness win. I'm going to write a post at the end of each month on what was fabulous over the previous few weeks - much like my blogging friend Debbie did with her 2021 #WOTY (which was Bold) - she ran with that word and inspired us all. Maybe I can do something similar with focusing on the little fabulous things in my life?

FABULOUS QUOTES

I'm a big fan of quotes - they often say a lot with only a few words. They lift my spirits, stimulate thought, bring a laugh, cause me to nod my head, or sum up a similar experience I've been through. I share them here on the blog and on my blog's Facebook page because it seems a shame to not give them a wider audience.

I've seen some fun "Fabulous" quotes too - so in the spirit of Fabulosity I'll be popping one into a post or on my FB page regularly in the weeks ahead. And to finish today's post, here's the first of many....

Flawed and Fabulous - because perfect doesn't exist and normal is boring

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Have you chosen a Word of the Year? I hope you'll share it with me in the comments if you have - and why you decided on it. If you haven't chosen a word, you're welcome to share mine and come on a journey as we discover our very best selves, while having a fabulous time in the process!

    1. Hi Sue - I've seen so many Midlife bloggers turn 60 and love it, so it seemed like a great word to choose to celebrate this next phase of life - and to focus on the positives and not let the negatives slide in x

    1. Hi Deb - that's what I figured - if you approach life with the attitude that despite what's going on around you, there's always something good happening, focus on that and celebrate it, then there should be plenty of fabulosity to be found!

    1. That's exactly my intention Min - something fun, frivolous, and upbeat to fight off all the covid doom and gloom. Life is pretty sweet if we choose to see it that way - so here's to a Fabulous 2022!

  6. Leanne you are fabulous. So fabulous is definitely the perfect word for you. I’m looking forward to read your posts about fabulosity, which is a word I love. I also love the image from the card your mum gave you. Happy New Year Leanne.

    1. Hi Jen - thank you so much for your very flattering and kind words. I think your aim to be happy and mine to be fabulous both tie in with wanting the year ahead to be a positive one and choosing to look on the bright side of things - we're going to rock 2022!

  7. What a great word - and perfect for where you're at. I'm making resolutions this year - something I haven't done for the past few years. I need to focus on me...which happens to be my word of the year.

    1. I totally understand the need to come full circle back to honouring yourself Jo - for so long we invest ourselves in everything else (other than our own needs) and when we come up for air we realize that we need to simplify it back to what feels right for us - and that's usually centred around family and authenticity. I think this year is going to be a really good one for all of us. x

  8. What fun Leanne! I love all the F words in your birthday post and this one is perfect for the year ahead! Thanks for the shoutout about my WOTY 2021 BOLD, it really was so much fun. I can't believe I actually inspired others while having so much fun, but thanks for the mention! All the best for a FABULOUS year ahead :)

    1. Hi Deb - it was a great word that you chose, but also the fact that you ran with it and made it so much fun is what stuck in my mind. I want to do the same with Fabulous - just keep returning to it to remind me how blessed I am and how the choices I make are the key to making life pretty darn fantastic (another F word!)

  9. Hi Leanne. I didn't really choose a WOTY, but I have made a resolution, for myself, to focus on being more positive. In the past, I've focused on what's been going wrong, instead of all the things that have gone right. I also want to be more upbeat, and less of a perfectionist. I'm going to focus on being grateful, for what I have, every single day. I'm looking forward to reading more of your inspiring words, in the new year. Thank you for being you! xxx Christina Daggett

    1. Hi Christina - I think choosing positivity and looking for the sunshine in the day really makes all the difference. You find what you look for IMHO. I choose to look for the light and to have fun with this lovely life I've been given. I refuse to allow all the worry and doomsday-ing to creep in and spoil things. It's going to be a fabulous year and your's is going to be great too. x

  10. Fabulous is a lovely word of the year, and I love your last statement there that perfect doesn't exist, and normal is boring.
I've chosen calm as my word of the year. Because 2021 was full of worry, anxiety and stressing about trying to live up to someone else's standards. Now I want to focus on living and doing things on my own terms, go with the flow, make the best of life, not trying so hard, have a mindful attitude about what happens around me and to never get back to the anxiety of 2021, no matter what happens. It's a lot about self-care and creating quality of life in the middle of chaos (2022 started with a massive Covid surge). I wish you a lovely year and keep being fabulous!

    1. Hi Susanne - I think covid and (all the uncertainty it brings with it) can really mess with our heads and our emotions. I'm choosing to be very intentional in how much of the news I let into my world - I don't want to be constantly focused on what the media is shouting at me. Instead, I'm looking for the good stuff, the happy stuff, and the lovely little moments that each day contains.

Being positive and choosing to count my blessings and being really grateful for where I live and how we've responded to things so far, is the way I plan to continue into 2022. I hope you find it to be a calm, peaceful and bright year ahead and I look forward to reading your posts as you reclaim your blog back to what feels authentic and right for you in 2022. :)

    1. Hi Joanne - we can't change what's happening around us, but we can choose whether we let it get us down or whether we rise above it. I intend to look for every positive little thing in the year ahead and enjoy them to the full - that's pretty fabulous IMHO :)

  12. Fabulous is wonderful, as is the idea of having a WOTY. Historically, I've done theme years - the year of being accepting, the year of being brave. It's a similar practice. I'm going to follow your example and adopt a WOTY for myself, however; it seems more precise.

Finding my word is proving to be a bit of a challenge. I think I'm focusing too hard on antonyms to perfectionism and not enough on finding something that inspires. Thanks for a great post. I'm off to get me a word.

    1. Hi Empahla - I think a Word often appears when you least expect it. I've overthought #WOTY many times, and I had several I'd tucked away for this year. Then my birthday came and the word Fabulous just felt right - I think it's because everyone is so down in the dumps over covid and I just want to soar above that and look for the silver lining. I hope you find your word soon and thanks so much for visiting. :)

    1. Hi Pat - you always have so many goals and intentions - I think they replace #WOTY for you. I'm more vague when it comes to forward planning (especially since I left work and my world has gotten smaller). A word just feels right for me - and this one lifts my spirits every time I use it. :)

    1. Hi Astrid - I love the word Joy - and use it often because it's a much better word than Happiness - which always seems so situation-dependent and a little superficial at times. Joy is much deeper. I went with Fabulous because I want to have some fun with it and use it to help me see the good stuff all around me x

  23. Darling friend, I am in awe of how you and Australian Deb (I have a London Deb I follow, too), and Christie and Sue had your WOTY find you. I wish one would fall on my lap or hit me in the head or come to me in a dream...maybe today?? I know more or less what I want the word to mean but none of the words that suit the definition feel right to me. Does that make sense?

Anyway, Fabulous and even better, Fabulosity, are grand words. They are light and fun and big and warm, like bubbles of champagne. Can't wait to see how your find, embrace, share your fabulousness/fabulosity with us. Happy new year.

    1. Hi Leslie - I know what it's like to struggle to find the right word to encompass a what you want to do. Another blogger I follow set an intention - which was more of a short sentence than a word - and I liked that idea too. I hope you come up with something to inspire you before January disappears into the ether.

I'm just going to rock my fun and frivolous word and see where it takes me :)

  24. Dear Leanne, Fabulous is a word I like. When I wish my friends, I often use that word, like wish you a fabulous year ahead..
At the turn of a year, I don't promise anything or resolve to do anything. Only because the novelty of the new year soon wears off and with that resolution or any commitment!
I am looking forward to how you "fabulously" weave your posts through the year.
