MY THREE DELIGHTS FROM MAY

MY THREE DELIGHTS FROM MAY

MY MAY DELIGHTS

As I mentioned at the beginning of January when I chose "Delight" as my Word of the Year, I thought I'd round off each month with three delights. May has been a lovely month here in Australia - cooling off a little from the incessant summer heat (hooray!), and today I'm sharing for May a floral delight (or two), a footwear delight, a Mothers Day delight, and a bonus quote about living delightfully.

So, without further ado here are my three delights from May...

DELIGHTFUL FLOWERS

I'm no green thumb, but I do love flowers and seeing their happy colours. I updated a pot out the back with these gorgeous mauve impatiens and they're enjoying their new spot out the back. Then for Mothers Day, my husband bought me a pot of miniature daffodils - they're such a bright spot in the kitchen and then they'll go to live in the garden when they finish blooming.

As a little side note, I always think of this cartoon when I hear the word "impatiens"

DELIGHTFUL SHOES

There's a couple of sayings that I took onboard this month that both relate to shoes:

Life's short, buy the shoes.

            and

Life's too short to wear boring shoes.

I'm never going to be a wearer of high heeled glamorous shoes, but when these popped up on my Facebook feed I just couldn't resist. What's not to love about hot pink, slightly sparkly shoes? They were even called "Happy Shoes" and that sums them up for me. The added bonus is that they're a perfect fit, and are super soft and comfortable - win/win!

A DELIGHTFUL MOTHERS DAY

I don't get to see my kids for Mothers Day - it usually falls in between their Easter visit and our next catch-up time. But they always phone me for a lovely chat and send me a card with some cash and a request to go out for morning tea with it to celebrate. So, we chose a lovely sunny day and headed off for a coffee and cake - with a (not great due to how sunny it was in the background...) photo to send to them with my thanks.

  3. I'm so glad that you had a delightful month, Leanne. We did, as well, and we're getting all settled in to our new home. We've bought some lovely furniture pieces, and are enjoying exploring the sites, in our area. It's nice living in a small town, and quite a change of pace, for us ♥️.

    1. Aren't they gorgeous Janelle? I kept scrolling past them until I couldn't resist and then just went ahead and bought them - I've had several compliments on them, but most of all they just make me happy. :)

  5. That certainly was a delightful May for you Leanne! I love the shoes and your Mother’s Day treats! I’ve potted up some Impatiens too, beautiful! Lately I’ve been realising it’s the smaller moments that often bring the most joy - treating myself to a coffee at my favourite coffee shop, walking in nature, a new book, etc.

    1. My impatiens aren't looking quite as lovely as when I first potted them - but they're still alive and I'm hoping for a resurgence of flowers when Spring rolls around. And yes, I'm finding that those little daily joys just make life all the sweeter. I'm so happy with this age and stage of life, and it sounds like you are too :)

    1. Hi Jo - the shoes just sucked me in - if I can't wear pink shoes now, then when? :) Finding little happinesses along the way make this stage of life even more delightful.

  7. Leanne, happy for you but wish I could say that May was a good month. It's always been a difficult month for me as many losses occurred in May (my mother's death anniversary, her birthday, Mother's Day ( a difficult one since my mother passed away),one of my aunt 's death anniversary, a cousin , my late best friend's birthday and the last surviving member of my mother's family( an aunt) passed away this May on Mother's Day and a niece passed away this past April. The weather has been cold and rainy.
I like your shoes (can't wear shoes with a strap) but I have a pair of fuchsia loafers which I love. I love the picture of the two of you with the beautiful background. I think I need to move where you are. And those cakes miam-miam. Make me miss where I am originally from with beautiful pâtisseries in beautiful pastry shops. Nothing like that here. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Yvonne - I'm so sorry that May is such a sad month for you. You've certainly had more than your fair share of loss and sadness. I hope my small, frivolous delights helped lift your heart a little and that you wear those fucsia shoes in my honour. Sunshine definitely lifts my heart and constant rain is so wearying. I hope the sun comes out for you soon and you go out and buy yourself a lovely cake to celebrate. x

  8. Leanne, I love the quote and try to live by it. Life is a gift to be cherished, nurtured, and appreciated. I love the pink shoes and can imagine the joy you must feel when you wear them. Happy May - my favorite month.

    1. Hi - that quote just reminded me of all the small things we can do to lift our hearts and to cheer along our day. I truly believe that what we turn our attention to is what colours our day and our mood. Just looking at my pink shoes makes me smile - so that's a good start for me :)

  9. Hi Leanne, The word “delight” already makes me smile. Me too, on how I do not have a green thumb yet love flowers. Victoria is known as a city of gardens and flowers throughout the year. A nice idea to celebrate Mother’s Day even though your family lives in other locations - they are always in our heart. A perfect quote about “Live Delightfully.” A good reminder for me to not keep saving ‘the good stuff.’ Thank you for sharing your delightful May, Leanne. xx 💕 Erica

    1. Hi Erica - I'd love to be someone who loves gardening and is surrounded by a flourishing cottage garden, but alas that will never be the case! Ross says I "rent" any plants I buy because they'll never last the distance (sigh....) but I'm okay with the short time of brightness they add to my life.
And yes, "delight" reminds me to be present and to be grateful because life really is good if we look for all those small joys that surround us every day. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your delightful self. x

  10. Hi Leanne - Looks like it was indeed a delightful month of May for you. For me, it was the first month after retirement. And 10 days of it went on a tour of Maharashtra state. (Still one more part of the travelogue post is pending.) I am just settling down in my new slower pace of life. A nice photo of you two. I liked that quote at the end about living delightfully. Couldn't agree with it more.

    1. Hi Pradeep - I've enjoyed following along with your travels - India is so different to Australia and has a lot of history that I know nothing about. So glad you're settling into the retired life and enjoying the extra time you have to travel and to potter around. Welcome to a new way of life - it takes a little adjustment, but it's very, very good.

  11. Leanne - I LOVE those shoes! And the fact they are comfortable, too! I've been contemplating buying some fun clothing to help brighten my spirits. No, don't need anything, but cheerful will be the key.

    1. Hi Pat - Google comments seem to default to Anonymous sometimes for some unknown reason. I think a little colour to brighten your day would be a good way to have a little jolt of joy in amongst the madness and chaos. I highly recommend pink shoes - I just wish they came in purple too. The teal ones were calling to me.....

  12. Looks like a delightful month for you and for all of those reasons. Good going on the sweet pink shoes! Nice one. And as for the family sending you and R out for Mother’s Day Morning tea that is very sweet. May is not a fully a wonderful month of memories for me but I do try to see the good parts too. Warm wishes from the city which copped the western red sand in the wind today! Australia and weather. We never know what’s next. Take care, Denyse x

    1. Hi Denyse - the weather continues to be a little crazy - I've been looking at all the huge flooding of some of NSW and it boggles my mind. I'm enjoying this May weather over here - not too much rain (thank goodness), freezing cold mornings, and then glorious sunny days. It's been so pleasant. Glad you're finding a little bit of joy in amongst the memories of years gone by. x
