Next letter up for the A-Z challenge of Positive Personality Traits is V - and V is for Versatile. Versatility is a really useful personality trait to have, it is right up there with being flexible and not being a control freak. Being able to adapt to changes in your life situation with flair and in an unflappable manner is an asset most people would want to aspire to.
I am the world's biggest controller - I love having my ducks in a row (or at least herded together and heading in the same direction.) Being in control makes me feel safe and it gives me the illusion that I have a much larger say in my life circumstances than I actually in fact do. I kid myself that I am prepared for every event, but actually that's not the case at all.....I am prepared for what I expect to happen and then flounder when that doesn't turn out to be the game plan.
People who are versatile adapt to change really well, they aren't bothered when the rules change or when there is a late cancellation or the planned event doesn't happen. They just adjust themselves, take the changes on board and head off into the sunset with a smile on their face and in anticipation of a new adventure. While my cage is being rattled, they are excited about what the change of events holds in store for them.
We live in a world that does its best to stress us out at every twist and turn, being versatile reduces the stress factor enormously. If you aren't bothered by life's ups and downs, then you don't get stressed about them. You don't lose your cool or start ranting if things aren't going to plan, you just accept it and adjust your sails and keep going. How I'd love that to be my normal response when things start going pear shaped!
So, being versatile is one major personality trait I am working on in my own life. If everyone could take life with a pinch of salt and carry on regardless, it would be a very serene world to live in (and we wouldn't need all those "Carry On and........" posters!)
See you next time for the continuation of Positive Personality Traits - W is for Wise.

That is indeed key to a stress free life
ReplyDeletethanks - I think it makes a huge difference :)
DeleteYep, one really needs to find that trait especially in this fast-paced life that we have now. Be in sync, adapt is the mantra we need to focus on. One does get rattled at unexpected events, twists and turns that life throws our way, but being versatile or open to changes helps one cope much better.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely Kala - we can't stop the changes and the unexpected from happening, so we need to adapt ourselves to those ups and downs and not get stressed because change is inevitable!
DeleteI need to be in control too much... can't help it
ReplyDeleteme too Zeljka - I'm a control freak at heart (but I'm working on letting go just a little bit!)
DeleteLoved this line.."I am the world's biggest controller - I love having my ducks in a row "
ReplyDeletebeing versatile is one trait i am too looking to have ..

ducks in a row are very important to people like me Deepti - sad but true :)
DeleteOh I really cannot handle changes with grace...But I do know a few people who are so versatile and it really makes me want to work on it and cultivate it.
ReplyDeleteLovely choice for V
Seena
#AtoZChallenge - V is for Videos
thanks Seena - When you see people who are flexible and able to go with the flow, it makes you realize how much easier life would be if you could learn to bend more too :)
DeleteVersatility certainly is a great trait to have Leanne as it means we can adapt to change much more easily. I do like to be organised but I like to think I can mix it up a bit if need be. Not long to go now for AtoZ!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the month is nearly over Sue - I've already started thinking about May - see I'm a planner and I'm lining up those ducks!!
DeleteLovely. Versatility is something I'd like to work on too. I also love this picture of the iris. So cool and blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kalpanaa - it was a beautiful flower and I hope you get to experience lots of variety so your versatility can grow :)
DeleteYou are absolutely right Leanne! Being versatile is quite a difficult trait, and in my case it is situation based. Few situations I am extremely versatile and few situations I just lose my mind if things don't go well. So I still need to become better in this trait :)
ReplyDeleteSrivi, The Piscean Me
I get rattled in certain situations too Srivi - I think we are all works in progress (except those who are naturally chilled all the time - lucky things!)
DeleteWorking toward it. I'm only sixty. It'll happen . . . right?
ReplyDeleteSure Di - we'll be chilled out 80 year olds :)
DeleteI have a long way to go in the practice of being versitile - I love my routines and need to feel that I am in control. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of routines and structure Alana but I'm sure I'd be a lot less stressed at times if I let the edges soften a little and a bit of flexibility crept in :)
