TAKE TIME TO NAP
Our fast paced, always busy lifestyle steals little pleasures away from us ~ one of these delights is the afternoon nap. I think the value of napping has become very under-rated. We are too busy rushing around and feeling guilty if we stop, and this takes away the pleasure of an afternoon nap. I'd like to see us rekindle the art of napping and appreciating it for all it offers.CATS HAVE NAPPING DOWN TO A FINE ART
Most days when I'm looking for our cats, they are curled up somewhere in a spot of sunshine or in a nook or on a cushion - happily dozing the day away. Meanwhile I'm running around doing chores and keeping busy with a multitude of little tasks. They yawn and stretch and open an eye occasionally to check that they're not missing anything, but basically they leave me to my rat-race lifestyle and happily snooze.Maybe it's time to take a leaf out of their cat manual and slow down and savour the napping ritual - there is nothing like taking an hour out of a Sunday afternoon to curl up on the couch with a soft blanket and a cushion or two and gently nod off for a while. You don't need to take yourself off to bed, just find a spot that makes you happy and kick off your shoes, put your feet up and dream away an hour or so.
REMEMBER TO UNPLUG
It's good to unplug from our busy lives and allow ourselves the luxury of putting our head down for a little while. The world won't stop, nobody will care, and you'll be refreshed and relaxed. There is nothing like a little weekend shut-eye to recharge your batteries - just ask my cats!
To keep up to date with my posts, feel free to add your email into the spot especially for it on my sidebar and I'd love you to share this post by clicking on a share button before you go xx
I agree! I love an afternoon nap on a lazy Sunday, although I rarely have the time. Visualizing one now. Ahhh.
ReplyDeleteme too Shari - there's nothing like whiling away an hour on a Sunday afternoon :)
DeleteLoved-One is a habitual napper. Not me. Most times, when I lay my head down what's inside kicks into overdrive. Still, a Sunday catch-up nap is really nice. Unlike many people, with age, I need at least a good 7 hours of nighttime rest. I sleep much better at night than I did in my younger years.
ReplyDeleteCats are the queens/kings of napping - I sleep well too, but sometimes an afternoon nap is just too tempting :)
DeleteGreat post! I shared on pinterest so I could find this again!
ReplyDeletethat's lovely thank you so much :)
DeleteI am a master napper. I think I'm part cat. This was such a cute post. Love it!
ReplyDeleteit's nice to know that you got one of the better aspects of a cat Rica :)
DeleteHow I wish I oould nap in the daytime. But it messes with my sleeping at night. I enjoy a 4:00 or so rest time with a good book and a time for just being, but that is it. To be a cat!
ReplyDeleteI think rest times nearly count as naps Michelle - just to stop for a little while and relax is so important.
DeleteI don't have a cat, but I've learnt to take an afternoon nap and not feel guilty about it. I have my husband to thank for that!
ReplyDeleteThe art of the afternoon nap can be taught by many gurus Corinne - obviously your husband has cat tendencies x
DeleteI completely agree! Napping is an underrated activity!
ReplyDeletemy sentiments exactly x
DeleteMy little sister has always taken naps and now she's in her 40's and swears by them. We've had numerous conversations about nap taking. She is totally pro and finally I caved and decided to nap one day and haven't stopped since. Not only does it give us a moment to stop our roll, as it were, but I always feel rejuvinated and refreshed.
ReplyDeleteHi - lovely to see you after the A-Z challenge :) and I'm glad you're a napper too - the world needs more nappers :)
DeleteOh, I may just head to the couch right after leaving you this comment. Thanks for the encouragement and the great Anne Lamott quote.
ReplyDeleteIt made me want one too while I was writing it Lois :)
DeleteI used to feel guilty about napping. Now I know I need it... and am far more productive after 20 minutes (not so productive if I nap for 40).
ReplyDeleteI'm an hour napper Lisa - if I'm going to settle down I want to get my money's worth!
DeleteI'm a firm believer that a nap can rejuvenate me for the day!!
ReplyDeleteI actually have a framed saying of what you can learn from your cat---and napping is one of them (my other fave is stretch often!!)

I didn't include stretching in my list Jodie but a nap plus a good stretch is certainly the way to go :)
DeleteI love watching cats sleep and I envy them their naps, I have Fibromyalgia and don't sleep well. Enjoyed this and shared. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna - I'm sorry you don't sleep well - it's one of the pleasures of life that we often lose as we get older - a nap helps make up for it sometimes :)
DeleteI agree. I adore cats napping! And unplugging is wonderful. I recently spent 11 days unplugged...heavenly!
ReplyDeleteWow 11 days! That is amazing Tam - I don't think I'd last a week - I'm too focused on keeping in touch with everything :)
DeleteHi Leanne, cats aren't daft. In the summer when it's hot I have been known to it down for a nap, to be honest it doesn't have to be hot. There is something nice about a little mid afternoon snooze and it gives me a much needed enough boost of energy that sees me through the rest of the day.

I couldn't agree more Debbie - the sheer luxury of a little snooze is hard to beat :)
DeleteFunnily enough I've just woken up from a little nap. I normally don't have time, but we've been travelling back from holiday today and the combination of a big lunch after driving a long way has made us sleepy. I feel very refreshed from it.

driving long distance (or being a passenger for that matter!) always makes me sleepy Sally - glad you snuck in a nap to recuperate!
DeleteI used to love to nap, just lay down and forget about the world for a bit. Now that I'm older if I nap I can't sleep at night! ARG! It's so frustrating. I may be the only one home and I could sneak in a nap, but I can't if I don't want to be awake all night! So, as you snooze a bit I will be feeling very envious! LOL
ReplyDeleteThere's a fine balance in napping the right amount Nikki - if I nap too late in the afternoon it definitely makes me more wakeful that night.
