LIFE LESSON FROM MY CAT #2 ~ BE CURIOUS AND ADVENTUROUS

Cats have a lot to teach us - Lesson Number 2 is to always be curious and ready for adventure #inspiration #lifelesson

CHOOSING TO BE CURIOUS - DESPITE THE RISK

There is a well known expression - "curiosity killed the cat" - never the dog or the rabbit or any other animal - always the cat. This is because cats can't help themselves when it comes to sticking their noses into places that are new or interesting. They are the great supervisors of this world - nothing can happen without them having an active interest in it.

HAVING THE CURIOSITY OF A SMALL CHILD

When we were children, curiosity was a byword for our daily life - we jumped into new adventures, tried new things, stuck our noses into things that weren't our business, made new friends, learnt new lessons, and had a great time discovering all that life had to offer.

Sadly, as adults we have lost that innate curiosity and desire for adventure. There are a few intrepid souls who you come across occasionally, out there climbing mountains or trekking through jungles or the outback, while the rest of us sit comfortably at home watching it on TV.

'We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.' Walt Disney #quotes

IT'S TIME TO BE ADVENTUROUS

Maybe it's time to take a leaf out of the cat manual and try something new - have a look at the bucket list and tick something off that we've been meaning to do. You don't need to climb a mountain to have an adventure - try a leisurely Sunday drive to somewhere new, eat at a new cafe, get to know a new person, start a blog........whatever - just do it! (as Nike would say) Life is short and we need to keep it interesting, if you could go anywhere and do anything -  If you could run away - where would you go?

  1. Cats are curious creatures aren't they Leanne and we can learn from them. We should never lose our curiosity of the world or the yearning to learn new things. Loving the series. #Blogger'sPitStop

    1. thanks Sue and I totally agree that we have to keep learning and moving forward or what's the point of the next 30 or so years? I certainly want to make the most of them!

  2. Now all our senses of adventures are from the comfort of our sofas. But, curiosity is what will keep us going and interested in life. Otherwise, what else do we look forward to.

    1. That's so true - if we don't have a sense of curiosity then we are going to be quite happy to let everyone else have all the fun.....curiosity says "what about me?"

  4. I agree that curiosity is important. So often it can help you to find new interests and learn new things. Curiosity is what brought me to blogging. I wanted to find out more about the social media world. #BloggersPitStop

    1. Curiosity has a lot more going for it than we give it credit for Donna - being willing to see where that curiosity takes you is an even bigger plus!

  5. That is why God gave us grandchildren. They are so much like cats...curious and adventourous. At least mine keep me reminded that life is short and we are to live it to the fullest. One thing I'm going to do out of my comfort zone is say yes more to things that scare me. Can't say what those things are yet, but when the opportunity arises, I'm not going to overthink the "what ifs." Have a great weekend.

  7. Weirdly, just yesterday my brother and I made plans to go to Biarritz for a film festival that his documentary was selected for. It's his first film, we spent way too much on airfare, and my skin is tingling over the thought of this adventure!!!! I feel like a curious kitty today! Thanks.

  8. Does peeping into the neighbour's phone qualify as being curious ? :D
I guess it's good to show moderate amount of curiosity. Be it discovering a new route to work, or a new place to watch movies at. It's all for a curious cause! :)

    1. Yes peeping is definitely being curious - but hopefully it won't get you into trouble! I think the new route to work would be a safer alternative way to exercise your curiosity Mithila :)

  9. Love this! I had a little grandson who was obviously part cat. His curiosity earned him the name "Push Button" because he could never pass a button without pushing it -- the bigger the appliance the better. I said "Had". I still have the grandson, but he did what they all do and grew up- and no longer pushes buttons. Sad in a way!

    1. children have that adventurous and curious nature that seems to get lost along the way as responsibility takes its place - there must be a fine art to finding a balance I think Shirley :)

  12. I have to say that I'm probably more adventurous now than ever. Probably because the kids are out of the house and I have more control over my time. There's so much of the world to see.

  14. Well said, Leanne! It's very important that we keep our curiosity peaked or we become bumps on a log. I can't wait to retire in 10 years so my hubs and I can begin a new adventure. Great article!

    1. Thanks Brenda - I think becoming a bump on a log is definitely in our future if we don't actively look for ways to find a little bit of adventure - it doesn't have to be big to be fun :)

  15. Thank you for confirmation that I need to be more conscious of and committed to that tiny inkling of curiosity when it nags at my core. I typically reason following through by saying I've got too much to do to waste time on such things. No more!

    1. Good girl Lisa! I'm a bit the same - there is always a reason to take the sensible route, but that route is fairly boring and it's not usually where memories are made.

  16. Excellent advice, Leanne! ☺ Hubby and I are always looking for new places to explore. They don't even have to be far away. In 2013, I was thrilled to have my lifelong dream (#1 on the bucket list) of exploring Greece come true. Life has been a little anti-climactic ever since, but we still love to travel - anywhere at all. Cheers!

  18. This a great series, Leanne! Curiousity is a human trait that is sadly muted in adulthood, like you say. But even adult cats get less curious...hmmmm...aging may be a small factor. :)

So true, Iw rote post a while back now about becoming more curious in order to be happier and more personal fulfilled, sometimes we get so stuck in the rut of everyday life and yet there is so much to explore. I am full of a cold right now and feel like crap, this post makes me long to get out exploring the minute I get my energy back! Great post lovely #FridayReflections

  24. I love how curious cats are...mine are perpetually sticking their noses into every thing. You're right in that the older we get, the less curious we seem to become. We lose that sense of awe and wonder. I was very adventurous after changing myself a few years ago. Sadly, my depression now has reverted me to finding solace on my couch. But hopefully, I'll find that curiosity again. Just like my cats! :)
