I'M BACK!
Today I'm back from holidays and first and foremost I would like to thank Sue, Dee and Kathleen for guesting on my blog last week and keeping it ticking along while I was enjoying sun, sea and a great time of relaxation. To start back this week, I'm linking up with Denyse and her Life This Week series where she gives a writing prompt each Monday. I've been planning to link up for a while and today is the first of many I'm hoping to do in the year ahead. The topic is "Today I will......" and I thought it was a good way to start my return from holidays.I'm a big fan of groups of "5 things" so here we go with my top five!
TODAY I WILL:
1.Start work again after two weeks of taking it easy - I'm back and feeling relaxed and ready to jump into the last few weeks before we close for Christmas and January. I'm very fortunate to work for a boss who likes to take a chunk of time off over the holiday period and I have the flexibility of working part of that time and taking some more leave too. So, I only have a couple of weeks of nose to the grindstone, and then I'll be on holidays again!
2.
Try to remember to be kind and patient with the people I meet and always have a smile for them - no matter how trying the situation might be. It's always good to remember that people are rarely deliberately offensive - they're usually just having a bad day. Who knows what a smile and a pleasant attitude can do to take the edge off things?
Use my spare time to put together a post about our time over at Rottnest so I can share some of the sights and adventures we had - my husband says it qualifies as an "adventure" if you are out of your comfort zone and trying new things - and that certainly applied to being on a little island off the coast of WA.
4.
Admire my Christmas tree and decorations that I put up before we went away. I love all things "Christmassy" and have a few posts to share about that next week. In the meantime I'll enjoy the twinkling lights, the shiny baubles and listening to my Christmas songs at work instead of the "Hits of the 70's" that I usually have playing. It might even be time to dig out my tacky Christmas T-shirts that I love to wear in honour of the occasion.
Remember to be nice to my husband and to appreciate how blessed I am to have him in my life. I'll also enjoy the fact that he works from home and has now taken it upon himself to do the majority of the housework and cooking - what's not to love about that?!
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
So that's what I'm planning to do today. What do you have on your to-do list?
This post was shared at some of these great link parties
To keep up to date with my posts, feel free to add your email into the spot especially for it on my sidebar and I'd love you to follow me on Facebook
I'm having one of those days where my usual methods of keeping my temper in check just aren't working. So instead of losing it in an email to a very annoying person I'm reading blog posts & feeling so much better.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll be happy you read fun blog posts and didn't send that email Jo - annoying people don't seem to understand how irritating they are - even if you email them to tell them why!
DeleteToday I will: Be more understanding, finish the Christmas decorating, nap when I need to, read at least one chapter in my current book and spend an hour studying (blogging things of course!)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit jealous of the napping part Jennifer but I totally get the "more understanding" part - it's something I worked on big time today too!
DeleteMondays are always trying for me and my boys. They're just rough going after having a weekend of relaxation plus with Christmas coming up they're both antsy and can't wait for vacation so this post is a good reminder to be more mindful and have more gratitude for what I have in my life:) #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteBoys are a law unto themselves Michelle - I don't envy you having to wrangle them for the next couple of weeks - but at the same time, you never get this age and stage back so try to find the little joys in amongst the chaos - happy memories are made from those moments x
DeleteToday I will: purchase a few Christmas gifts online, wrap a few I already have, and work on my list to make sure I'm not forgetting anything. I don't ever remember feeling this unhurried in December, so I'm certain I must be forgetting something or someone! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit the same way Wendy - I've ordered a few things online, wrapped a couple already and a couple more still to go - very few presents in total as the family gets older and less in need of gifts - it becomes more about time together as our kids become adults and can buy their own stuff.
DeleteOK you really have me thinking about this. Not just the fact I should probably do it for myself but it could be super fun to incorporate this in the mother-daughter journal we do. Help my daughter frame her day before it even begins.
ReplyDeleteToday I will visit some friends. During this time of year everyone gets so busy...I am forcing myself to block 30 minutes to visit some friends after work.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is such a big part of who we are Darlene - and making it a priority shows how much you value yours :)
DeleteOh, today is crazy: put up the tree (finally), grade gerontology final papers, and write my syllabus for next semester (bc my boss wants to approve it tomorrow). December is craziness! Your tree is pretty.
ReplyDeleteWow! You sounded very intellectual with your day's plans Karen - glad you're throwing a Christmas tree into the mix to give your poor brain a rest :)
DeleteToday I will... is a good reminder to be positive and also organized. Looking forward to reading about your vacation. Today I will get back to outdoor cycling. I have been off a week, had a cold and it has been so damn cold and windy for here ,not really that bitter cold found in some places but enough that I have whipped out, but not today.
ReplyDeleteIt's been 35 degrees and REALLY hot here since we got back from holidays Haralee - I can't imagine it being as cold as it is where you are (or where those snow bunnies write from!) Glad you're feeling better and getting out and about again x
DeleteWelcome back Leanne and looks like you are straight back into it. Today I will.... finalise some Christmas shopping, go to the Osteopath for my sore back, buy and plant some flowers and enjoy. I loved your 5 and you have a keeper like me. We are pretty lucky with our husbands. x
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your back is still bothering you Sue - hope you get on top of things with it (back pain is such a "pain" to live with). And yes we definitely scored well with our men - I love seeing the pics of Mike making you breakfast x
DeleteToday, I will: Smile at everyone!
ReplyDeleteand it's their problem if they don't smile back Di :D
DeleteHi, Leanne - Welcome home! I love your five commitments. I look forward to reading your upcoming post on your recent travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna - it wasn't the Camino Trail (although everyone seems to be talking about that lately - it is certainly the thing to do these days!) but we had a lovely time and it was incredibly relaxing - something vacations tend to NOT be when you're running around being a tourist and trying to cram everything into a week!
DeleteLooks like you have made a plan that works for you. I like the flexibility of your work life. And husbands are to be treasured. I have one like yours too. Glad the prompt worked for you and I look forward to seeing more via them in 2018. I recently read and learned that if we think everyone (including us) is doing the best they can on that day, then we need to be understanding of that. Thank you for linking up for #lifethisweek48/52. Next week is the last link up and prompt for 2017 - Christmas Plans
ReplyDeleteI love that you have your prompts up with lots of time to think about what to write and how to apply it to my life Denyse - I'll definitely be doing lots of them next year xx
DeleteLeanne, I learned something else that we have in common from this post. My husband also works from home and handles the majority of the housework, meeting repairman, accepting deliveries, etc. Isn't it wonderful? Today I will tell him thank you. And thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI resisted the whole non 9-5 husband thing for a long time Christie, but now I think we've finally gotten the balance right and it works really well for both of us. It took a long time, but now I don't think I'd cope with him being gone Mon - Fri!
Deletepick my daughter up from the airport. I am a happy mommy.
ReplyDeleteThat makes me a little bit jealous Elise! Enjoy your time with her - so special isn't it? I hope she's staying for Christmas x
DeleteDecember is one of those months we have to try harder to be nice, tolerant and patient, although it seems harder due to the holiday rush and push. Great reminders to all of us to just breathe and enjoy the journey!
ReplyDeleteI think it's about attitude Terri - we choose how we want to respond and how much we let things get to us. Every time I start to feel stressed it's because I've taken too much on board and just have to step back and remember to breathe again.
DeleteToday I will forget what someone has done to me and friends that was ugly. I will smile, listen to Christmas music while I prepare for the farmer's market this weekend. Followed you here from the Blogger's Pit Stop party, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce - there's nothing worse than being betrayed by someone and I'm sorry it happened to you and your friends. I hope the spirit of Christmas heals some of the hurt and listening to Christmas carols always raises my mood!
DeleteReally positive post. I always try my hardest to be calmer but forget every day! #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteMe too - patience isn't one of my strong points and calmness isn't either :) we can be works in progress.
DeleteHello to a happy New Year! We are back into it and this post was among the most popular at our last linkup so we will feature it this week. We are looking forward to your sharing more this year.
