LETTING GO, SELF-CARE, AND MAKING IT HAPPEN

Letting go means taking a step back, prioritising, and taking the pressure off. Find your balance and make time to enjoy all the areas of your life. #letgo #balance

Today I have my first guest in my MIDLIFE SYMPHONY series where I've asked other bloggers to share what they're doing to make the second half of life the best half of life. My friend Sue from Women Living Well After 50 agreed to share her journey over the last few years as she wrestled with early retirement and getting her life into balance. If you have a story you'd like to share I'd love to hear from you. But for now,  I'll hand it over to Sue.....

YOU CAN QUIT THAT AWFUL JOB RIGHT NOW

Here are some of the things to consider if you want to retire early and quit that job from hell. #earlyretirement

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORK TILL YOU DIE

If you're one of those lucky people who love their job then I take my hat off to you. I truly envy people who look forward to going to work every Monday. I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like because I've never had a job I could truly say I loved. I've had jobs that I've been really good at, jobs I've not minded doing, jobs that have paid well, jobs that were okay, but nothing all that fabulous. Because of that I've always wanted to NOT have to go to work and wondered if that day would ever arrive.

IT'S TIME TO GET TO KNOW YOURSELF BETTER

Life's short and I don't have time to play around with being someone I'm not. So, the question is "how do I get to know myself better?" #lifesshort #knowyourself

WHO ARE WE NOW WE'RE IN MIDLIFE?

I don't know about you, but there are times I've wondered how much of who I am is due to my choices and how much has been inherited from my upbringing, or absorbed from those around me, or created so that I feel like I fit in. Now I'm past the halfway mark of life I'm finding that I want to drill down more, get to know myself, to understand myself better, and find what truly drives me.

WHEN YOU'RE NO LONGER THE LIFE OF THE PARTY

Life's short so don't force yourself to be an extravert if you're not the life of the party. You're allowed to socialise on your own terms. #lifesshort #partying

DOES AGEING CHANGE US?

Do you ever feel like you're becoming more introverted with age? My husband laughs when I say that I've become an introvert, but I really believe it's true. I'm also becoming a bit of a social recluse these days too - going out to social gatherings seems to have lost its appeal somewhere in the last decade or so. I'm content to be home in my own space and it takes a lot of incentive to get me out the front door. It feels like I'm forcing myself to do something that just doesn't appeal - and life's too short to do that anymore.

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU A WAKE-UP CALL

2019 taught me a lot about living well. Sometimes you have to reach a place where you wake up to the fact that you aren’t living the life you want before you can start living well. #newstart #lifelessons

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU A WAKE-UP CALL

2019 taught me a lot about living well. Sometimes you have to reach a place where you wake up to the fact that you aren’t living the life you want before you can start making changes to bring about a life that feels authentic and brings joy and contentment with it.

Last year I finally left an extremely toxic work environment, and I learned a few very important truths in the process of working through the fallout and progressing through to recovering myself again. They’re truths that we all know, but sometimes we let them gradually slide away when we’re slowly sinking into a situation that’s unexpected and stressful. So, I thought I’d share three lessons that I learned over the year it’s taken me to emerge and live life well again.

LIFE'S SHORT SO MAKE THE MOST OF THE MOMENTS

Midlife is when we enter the second half of life and realize we need to stop wasting time on the unimportant stuff. What are you doing with your one wild and precious life? #WOTY #lifesshort

THE SECOND HALF OF LIFE

I don't know about you, but now I've reached an age where 50 is receding into the distance in my rear view mirror, I've come to accept that I'm in the second half of life and time is fleeting. I don't have time to waste on things that don't grow me, or help me to thrive because, for me, it's now all about focusing on what I can do that leads me towards becoming a better person.

A NEW YEAR, A NEW DECADE, AND NEW HORIZONS

2020 brings with it so much promise - a new year, a new decade, and many new challenges and adventures. I can't wait to get started! #midlife #newhorizons

A NEW DECADE BEGINS

As we were launching into 2020 I noticed there were comments about a new year and a new decade, and it got me thinking about what that means for me. I haven't really considered decade changes much before this one, but I feel like 2020 holds something a bit special - maybe it's the fact that the numbers look so nice and neat (I'm a little bit OCD when it comes to things like that). I'm also feeling that the decade ahead is going to be a good one too because it's the first one for a very long time that I'm going into with absolutely no idea of what lies ahead.

LIFE'S SHORT - LET'S CREATE OUR MIDLIFE SYMPHONY

It's time to turn our back on consumerism and step out of the rat race, Let's replace the hustle with living a meaningful life that resonates with our values and grows us into creating our best life. #midlife #bestlife

DISCOVERING MY SYMPHONY

Over the last few months (since turning the big 5-8) I've been thinking a lot about the fact that life is getting shorter - I'm definitely into the second half of my life now, and I want to live it well. I keep coming back to the idea that the first half of life was a preparation time where I figured out what was important and what I wanted to discard. And now it's all about making the years ahead real, and authentic, and worthwhile. As I mulled all this over, I wondered how I’d condense the idea of living well down to one word for my Word of the Year (WOTY) and then I realized that a quote I loved from William Henry Channing had done it for me – and it all came together in his very last word….. SYMPHONY.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE

Because I always enjoy a good 'Taking Stock' blog post, I hope you'll humour me and sit a while as I share my news. There's nothing like a virtual cuppa and a chat, and I have lots to share from the last few weeks. #ifwewerehavingcoffee

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE

If we were having coffee these are a few things I'd be sharing from December - my Christmas break is over, the celebrations are finished, the family's gone home, the tree's packed away, and we've begun a new year - which I'm very excited about. But first, because I always enjoy a good 'Taking Stock' blog post, I hope you'll humour me and sit a while as I share my news. There's nothing like a virtual cuppa and a chat, and I have lots to share from the last few weeks.
