MY FABULOUS SEPTEMBER

Living life fabulously - looking back at all the fun little happenings during September.

MY FABULOUS SEPTEMBER

Oh my goodness, we're into Spring in Australia, although a lot of the time it still feels quite wintery. Still, the sun's up earlier - which makes getting out of bed easier, and the days are warming up. It's been a quiet month for me, but there's still lots of little updates to share. So, on that note here's what's been Fabulous throughout the lovely month of September....

FAMILY-ING

A quiet month as far as the extended family goes - we have the grandgirls down for a visit next week, so September's been just the two of us. Father's Day brought cards and some cash for a coffee date from the kids, so we took ourselves off to a cafe by the beach while the weather was clear and Spring-y. Not a great pic, and the food and coffee had been consumed by the time we remembered to take it, but it was a very pleasant morning's excursion.

BLOGGING

It's been a good month on the blog - I'm always grateful to those of you who stop by to read and to comment. I'm also appreciative when people pop over to my Facebook page too and leave me some love there when commenting is difficult on my blog (Google and Mac products sometimes have issues for reasons beyond my understanding).  Anyway....if you missed any of my September posts I've linked them below for you.

MAGAZINE-ING

I'm feeling a little bit famous this month after being included in "Australia's largest circulating guidebook for over 50's". It was an honour to be approached by one of their staff to ask if they could share my work and I must say, it's pretty cool seeing my words on paper instead of just in my blog. They were even kind enough to send me a copy. You can't read the article very well here, but it was based on this post.

HIPPING

My other exciting news is that my wait for a hip replacement is going to be shorter than I originally thought. I have a 12 month wait to be eligible for a THR with my private health insurance rules, and that was taking me through til March 2023. But....I contacted my surgeon back in August to discuss the fact that my hip is deteriorating faster than anticipated and he agreed. So.....he's scheduled me into the public system with a more urgent category and gave me a date for mid October - which is now in 2 week's time!

I keep fluctuating between a bright shiny hope that I'll be walking without pain in a few week's time, and then trying to be pragmatic and realizing that everything is still a little uncertain in these covid influenced times - the operation may get cancelled or rescheduled - but I'm still holding on and hoping because it makes life a lot easier to manage with a closer end date. So, if you pray....please send prayers for my op to go ahead and for a great result - and my end of month update for October will hopefully include the joys of a new hip.

CREATING

I've been embracing jigsaws again this last month or so. With my limited walking ability (due to my increasingly dodgy hip) I find sitting and doing a puzzle or two a pleasant way to pass the time. This is the latest one that was a fun project.

I've been a little less prolific with my collages - so I thought I'd just share the three that I've done this month. They're still based around the Medieval Maids of Alla Tsank.

FABULOSITY

In honour of trying to splurge a little more (I'm SO bad at spending money frivolously!) I gave in to temptation and bought myself some lovely Nogu mermaid glass bracelets. I've been dithering over them for a long time (they pop up on my Facebook feed occasionally when they have a sale) and my husband told me to just "do it"! So I hit the Buy Now button and will get them for my birthday in a few weeks time. I hope they're as lovely as they look online!

  1. I think it is a great photo of you and your husband, Leanne. Ha, ha, food and coffee consumed before picture…happens to me all the time.

Again, awesome about your magazine article and sharing your insights and wisdom! #2, #10 extra resonate with me.

I am sending lots of good wishes on your surgery and speedy healing…yes, prayers. And, yes, fabulous for the rest of your life. I already knew that about you xx

    1. Hi Erica! It's always so lovely when you stop by :) I'm a terrible food photographer - I'm usually too busy chatting to remember to pull out my phone. And I have my fingers and toes firmly crossed for my op to go ahead. It's starting to feel real now and that's nearly as scary as not being able to walk. But it's good having some hope. x Have a great week my friend!

    1. Thanks Joanne - I'm SO ready to get this hip of mine sorted out but I'm also aware that we live in uncertain times, so I'll believe it's happened when I wake up with a new hip :) And yes, I was very pleased when they asked if they could use one of my posts for their magazine - it was a nice affirmation.

  3. Leanne, you're in my thoughts and my prayers. Bravo for having your post featured in a magazine. You must be looking forward to spending time with your grandkids. Here, we're cleaning up after Hurricane Fiona... a nice welcome to Fall ! Iam not looking forward to the cold weather. Nice pic of you and your husband! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Yvonne - I hope the clean-up wasn't too onerous and there wasn't any damage. Hurricanes are so frightening and leave such a trail of destruction. Thanks for sending prayers my way - I'm trying not to pin all my hopes on this operation date, but as it draws closer it becomes more real and my hopes keep climbing!

  4. Forgot to mention the lovely bracelets. I would like to hear more about them when you do receive them. It's important to treat oneself once in a while as one would treat a dear friend.

    1. I didn't realize they shipped from the US - so the wait is a bit longer than I expected. I'm so hoping they'll be as pretty as they look in their ads. They've been featured in a lot of reputable magazines - so fingers crossed!

  11. We are in Autumn here and although I love this season I don’t look forward to winter coming. So, I envy your Spring just a bit. It must be wonderful to have Christmas in Summertime though! I just said a prayer for your hip surgery to go forward in two weeks and that it goes well with quick recovery.

    1. Hi - thank you so much for your prayers - keep them coming! And if it's any consolation I always envy the other hemisphere when we're cold and rainy and I'm seeing Spring photos or pictures of people sunning by the pool. It's so strange to have opposite weather at the same time. And I also think it would be wonderful to have a white Christmas like they do in the movies. :)

Hi Suzanne - I'm so pleased to have the surgery scheduled 5 months earlier than expected - I have my other date still as a back-up, but I have everything crossed and a multitude of prayers going up for this to go ahead in a couple of weeks and to be walking again in a month....it seems so unreal!

  17. Another lovely month Leanne and well done on the magazine article! It is nice to be recognised isn't it? Good news about your hip too and hope that you are currently coping okay. Having your granddaughters to stay will also take your mind off the pain but take care as it can be tiring trying to keep up with them!

    1. Hi Sue - yes, I'm looking forward to the grandgirls being here as a distraction. I'll be less physical with things, but can still watch them at the playground, read stories, play and colour and craft - so it'll be a lovely time and will fill the days leading up to my operation date.

  18. Oh Leanne, your op is sooner than expected...and yes, it also makes it very real and somewhat scary...being "on this side" of the surgery is always a challenge, and whilst I cannot promise anything other than "it will be the best thing to get done"...yay for you sharing it and for a kind surgeon. I am always up for an on-line chat. I know it's tough
getting ready....but I am so glad I had my recent surgery and feel 100% well 7 weeks on. As for buying something you love...yes, to what Ross said!! Congrats on the article. Life is very interesting at any age but as we age, I am so glad for recognition like this!! Thanks so much for linking up this week for Wednesday’s Words and Pics Link Up.

Looking forward to connecting with you more again soon.

Next week, I am back with my story about following my heart!

    Warmest wishes,

    Denyse.

    1. Hi Denyse - I think about your 11 hour surgery and it puts this into perspective for me. It's only a couple of hours all up and a couple of days in hospital before coming home to the peace and quiet and familiarity again. I'm praying every day that things will go according to plan, but I can also understand if it doesn't. I'm grateful that this opportunity to speed up the process has happened and I'll be so grateful when I'm on the other side of it all. Thanks for your encouraging words and I'm so glad you're feeling on top of things again after your latest bout of surgery. x
