MY THREE DELIGHTS FROM APRIL

A few little joys from the month of April that remind me how good life really is.

MY APRIL DELIGHTS

As I mentioned at the beginning of January when I chose "Delight" as my Word of the Year, I thought I'd round off each month with three delights. April has been a lovely month with Easter holidays giving us time spent with our children and grandgirls. Today it's time to share a family delight, a bathroom delight, and a quote about finding delight in the everyday moments that come our way.

So, without further ado here are my three delights from April...

A DELIGHTFUL TIME WITH FAMILY

Easter is always a special time for me, it makes me pause to remember the real reason behind the holiday (not just the chocolate!) and it always brings with it some extended time with our adult children and our two delightful grandgirls. I just love having them here with us sharing their time, the laughter, the meals, the stories, and the outings. I'm so grateful every time I see them for what wonderful humans they've become and for what a great job they're doing with their lives. The weather was glorious - just the right amount of sunshine for a stroll along the estuary, and we had two birthdays to celebrate with cupcakes.

My daughter even made time to do a little op-shopping with me - nothing beats browsing around in amongst the clothing and book bargains..... and we followed that up with some morning tea and a good chat. I miss having her nearby, but it's times like this that make up for the distance.

A DELIGHTFUL NEW ENSUITE BATHROOM

I couldn't include our bathroom renovation in March's delights because it didn't feel very delightful while we were immersed in the process (I alluded to it in my post about Life Imitating A Renovation). But, now we're out of the tunnel and the tradesmen are gone, the bathroom is finished....and we love it! It feels like a day spa because it's all so calm, and beautiful, and functional - bliss!

So, after all the upheaval, I'm delighting every day in how happy we are with our new space. To give you a little bit of an idea of how it looked before, and how it looks now:

  1. Hi Leanne. It sounds like you had quite an eventful and blissful month. I'm so glad your bathroom turned out well, and I'm glad you'll be able to have a spa-like experience, whenever you use your bath. We have also enjoyed an eventful month, and tomorrow we will close on our house, here in Williamston, North Carolina. I think we're going to like it here. Everyone is so friendly. I had forgotten that fact about southern people. I'll send photos soon. ♥️

    1. Hi Christina - I had to do a Google search to find where you were (my US geography is sadly lacking). It looks like it would be a lovely spot to settle. Is it anywhere near where you originally lived? Close to friends or family - or are you starting from scratch? I'll look forward to seeing the photos and hearing all your exciting updates. x

    1. Hi Jo - it's funny when you have something and think it's okay, then strip it back and rethink it, and it all feels so much better. Hopefully it will take us into the next decade or two without needing any more refreshing. And yes, a big thumbs up to the op shopping revolution :)

    1. Thanks Donna - it's certainly delightful to be using our new space - and to have our house back to its usual peacefulness. Sometimes chaos reminds us of how lovely its absence is!

  5. I am familiar with the discomfort involved in renovation so understand what you have been through but what a wonderful result. Enjoy this new space in your home.

    1. Thanks Judith - I knew it would be disruptive, but I hadn't realized how quiet and ordered our life is - in complete contrast to what goes on in a renovation. It's lovely to have our home back and to have a really good result - the stress fades, the bathroom stays :)

    1. Hi Pradeep - looking back, it was definitely worth it, in the middle of it all I was definitely questioning my choices! I figured that the longer you leave it, the harder it would get, so good to have tackled it and to be done with it. And it does look lovely.

  7. Your Easter sounds wonderful, always a treat to spend time with family, especially when they don’t live nearby. As for your bathroom/spa space, it looks lovely. I’m very envious as we are still not finished with ours, getting closer now though! Enjoy!

    1. It was such a lovely time with them all - I still smile when I think back about their visit. And yes, so good to have the bathroom all finished. I don't think I had any idea of the disruption that would be involved (I was very naive!) So worth it now in hindsight, but so stressful and unsettling when we were in the middle of it all. I broke out in stress hives towards the end - so it definitely was well outside my comfort zone! Good luck with finishing yours. :)

    1. It was quite a surprise as to how stressed I was by it all - I can certainly resonate (in a very tiny way in comparison) with all you're going through with your house!

    1. Thanks Christie - it's funny how a bathroom that was fine can become so much more with a renovation - all it costs is the dollars and disruption!

  11. So thankful you survived the bathroom reno project and are now on the other side of all of that demolition. Love the end result. We have a big garden tub in our master bath and the only time we use it is when the grandgirls stay for baths at our house. Our shower, on the other hand, is very small and shaving my legs has me wrapping my foot around my neck!! We need to do something and very much like the changes you've made. Beautiful, restful space!!

Glad for the quality time you were able to spend with your daughter. I have a daughter who lives in El Paso but about 20 miles across the mountain from me. Even though she is right here, LIFE keeps us from having long chats or really getting together very often. My daughter across the state, 500 miles away, calls everyday and we talk much more often. Nothing like having a little time with them alone and in person, though.

The grandgirls are so precious. Getting tall!! Love that one is a blonde and the other has darker hair. My daughters were that way, my sister and I were like that, and my grandgirls also have opposite coloring.

Hope you continue to have mild days as you move into winter. Oh, P.S., on our cruise I met several very friendly Aussie ladies and shared your blog, Sue's, Deb's and Joanne's with them. Hope you will have some new readers!!

  12. Hi Leslie - thank you so much for thinking about me (and the others) and sharing our blogs. I find that blogging has become a lot less of a community than when I started, so it's always lovely when I see that come back now and then.

The bathroom is wonderful and I don't miss the big spa bath (although our grandgirls loved having their baths in it over the years. They didn't seem to upset that it was gone when they visited, so I'm glad I didn't wait for some magical future date!

And daughters are such a special bond, I think I miss mine more than she misses me because her life is so busy and full. I'm always grateful when she squeezes in an hour for a call or when she and her husband come for a visit. xx
