LIFE AFTER 50: TRADING THE EMPTY NEST FOR AN OPEN SEA

LIFE AFTER 50: TRADING THE EMPTY NEST FOR AN OPEN SEA

INTRO

I often read blog posts from my fellow Midlifers about the wonderful cruises they've been on and how relaxing they are. Today on the blog I have a collaboration with a big fan of the cruising lifestyle - and it sounds absolutely delightful. I hope you enjoy their recommendations for cruising for the over 50's who want something a little more special...

TRADING THE EMPTY NEST FOR AN OPEN SEA

For those of us over fifty, cruising is the ultimate getaway as it expertly blends exploration and luxury with peace and relaxation into one unforgettable travel experience. Leading cruise lines compile packages catering to different interests and mobility needs to make it easier for seniors to feel included and most importantly, cared for.

Whether you are seeking to spend time at a scenic escape or prefer visiting multiple destinations without having to pack and unpack, there are thoughtfully crafted cruise deals for people enjoying their second half of life.

So let’s dive head-first into what makes these senior cruise packages so special and how to pick one that suits your needs best.

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT CRUISES FOR SENIORS?

Unlike air travel, cruising eliminates the need for seniors to stand in line for tedious security checks. Instead, they can simply arrive at the nearest port and embark on their voyage hassle-free. From discounted fares, wheel-chair friendly accommodation and access to a host of onboard amenities, cruise packages are designed to cater to the unique needs and preferences of older adults.

For those seeking activities that promote rejuvenation on a cruise, socializing and entertainment, the industry is paying close attention to this rapidly growing demographic, because seniors continue to be more and more attracted to this perfect blend of convenience and adventure travel.

Considering that many over 50 are looking for cruises where they can eat healthy, meditate and get the mind and body moving in order to decompress, the cruise lines have provided a plethora of health and wellness sailing itineraries on the high seas. Today, it is entirely possible to make any cruise trip your own, and completely wellness-focused as most of the leading cruise lines have ships equipped with state-of-the-art fitness centres, healthy food options, spa treatments, onboard jogging tracks and even activity-centered shore excursions.

Then there are themed cruises which feature like-minded travelers with holistic living as their focal point and which includes plant-based nutrition, fitness and rejuvenation, with offers of daily yoga classes waiting to be participated in. Some cruise lines are a wellness lover’s dream as they provide veranda staterooms and suites designed to create the ultimate experience of relaxation and rejuvenation.
From eco-friendly bath products to massaging shower heads and a yoga mat for private practice, the options are endless. There are even wellness channels streaming 24x7 on the room’s TV.

Moreover, the spas on the cruise ship have extensive menus, featuring everything from anti-aging treatments to nature-inspired programs inspired by the different ports of call you visit. Soothe the body with a zero-gravity wellness massage on an advanced treatment table that allows the therapist to work on every group of muscles.

Cruising also offers a cost-effective way to explore multiple destinations without breaking the bank. Within a matter of few days, seniors can explore several cities and landmarks, thereby reducing the cost of travel which is usually associated with such trips. Cruise ships also have onboard security measures and medical assistance in place using the latest technology and expertise that ensure complete safety, not only for all passengers but the crew as well.

This means, in the event of any emergency or unforeseen circumstances, seniors can be assured of prompt and effective medical assistance and be shifted to the nearest on-land establishment for further treatment.

PLANNING YOUR REJUVENATION CRUISE

When you intend to go on a senior wellness cruise consider making the following choices:

What you would like to improve about your health?

What are the facilities available on the ship?

The probable weather conditions at sea

The capability of the wellness professionals on the ship

Any health brand which the ship promotes

FINDING THE PERFECT SENIOR CRUISE FOR YOUR LIFESTYLE

If rejuvenating in a lavish environment sounds like the holiday of your dreams, consider choosing a cruise line that places emphasis on luxury, like an oasis of calm on the water.

Top features should include spa treatments, lounges to sip a cocktail in as the sun sets over the horizon and indulgent and spacious cabins with thoughtful detail for premium comfort. All these elements will create a cruise experience where the centre stage will be indulgence and serenity.

ONSHORE ADVENTURE AND EXPLORATION

For the wellness-focused senior cruiser, an exciting itinerary should include shore excursions to vibrant destinations that awaken your sense of wellbeing and adventure.

Picture yourself in a villa surrounded by surreal ocean views, with the tiniest detail carefully curated to ensure you have the ultimate rejuvenation experience.

Designed to nurture your wellbeing, these shore excursions  allow you to fully immerse yourself in the wellness program of your choice, from Pilates practices to daily yoga sessions, to meditation and sound healing, including saunas and vitality pools.

It all sounds absolutely delightful - time to go and look into making a booking...

  2. Hi Leanne - I hadn't heard of cruises specially for seniors. It's a great concept for people who are in an age when they have less commitments and more time to look forward to unwinding and relaxing.

    1. Hi Pradeep - I thought it was a great idea too. I'm not a fan of lots of loud noise and rowdy children, so a serene wellness cruise would suit me down to the ground :)
