INTRO
Today on the blog I have a really special collaboration with VisionDirect
in honour of International Women's Day that arrives on the 8th of March.
It's a great occasion to spoil ourselves with something a little bit
different - and if you're like me, you're wearing glasses more often these
days. I use mine all the time for reading and blogging and I'm never without
a pair of sunglasses in the car or when I go for my morning
walk.
There's so many options available to us these days that I haven't even
begun to tap into - including buying prescription glasses online (my
daughter and son-in-law swear by the value in doing this). There's also a
myriad of really amazing designer sunglasses at great prices and I spent far
too long scrolling through Vision Direct's site choosing a pair! I thought
in honour of IWD I'd share a few finds I discovered while I was checking out
their products.
WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT IWD?
International Women’s Day (IWD) is around the corner and as much as we
think that it’s just another day, this day holds a lot of importance. The
first IWD was observed in 1911 to take action against women’s oppression and
gender inequality.
IWD is celebrated every year on March 8th for the following reasons:
● To celebrate women’s achievements,
● To raise awareness about women’s rights,
● To promote gender-parity
● To fundraise for female-focused charities.
PROTECT YOUR EYES AND SAVE A LIFE
If all the time you spend on your laptop or phone has been causing vision-related problems such as dry eyes and eye strain, you may want to visit your ophthalmologist to get your eyes tested. Digital Eye Syndrome is a growing public health threat that can be avoided by minimizing exposure to short high-energy waves emitted by digital screens. This along with factors such as blurry vision, squinting, headaches, lack of clear vision at night can contribute to the need for new glasses. This International Women’s Day (March 8), one of the world’s leading eyewear e-tailers, VisionDirect.com.au is offering an 8% discount sitewide and 30% off the exclusive SmartBuy Collection for women’s glasses only. The SmartBuy Collection is a high-quality affordable eyewear brand exclusively available at VisionDirect.com.au. The line offers a selection of more than 500 pairs of glasses in a vast variety of shapes, materials, and colours. Their frame prices start at just $16 and include free 1.5 prescription lenses.
Shopping the SmartBuy Collection helps eliminate preventable child deaths through its partnership with World Vision. The collaboration supports Mother & Child Health programs in Zambia, so we can make the world a better place one frame at a time.

AVIATOR GLASSES
Aviators are a timeless style of sunglasses that flatter most face shapes.
These chic pilot shaped sunnies come with stylish purple lenses to make
every day feel brighter, whilst giving serious protection against UV rays.
Purple is also one of the colours that symbolizes IWD, as it signifies
justice and dignity. Get a 2-year warranty when you buy from
VisionDirect.com.au.
Transparent frames are one of the most versatile styles of glasses
available now. Not only are they having a moment in 2021, but they’re also
an evergreen style choice as they look good with every look. Buy this
knowing that you are helping save children’s lives. At only $16, these
glasses feel good in every way.
I am lost without my glasses these days, Leanne. I will check whether IWD is also in Canada. I have been reading about more issues with eyes these past 12 months. I look forward to checking out VisionDirect. Sunglasses are a must for me, too. Yes, you have inspired me, especially with some of the fun styles you showcase here.
ReplyDeleteHi Erica - they have international postage, so you could order and have them rock up on your doorstep - their virtual try-on tool looks like it'd be fun to play around with. I've ordered a lovely purple pair of their sunglasses because I couldn't resist!
DeleteLeanne, So many great choices from Vision Direct. Not only we protect our eyes, see better, but also look good. Thank you for linking with #WeekendCoffeeShare.
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie - I think I actually look better with glasses than without them these days - they add a bit of colour and pizzazz to my face!
DeleteI'm in the market for new (prescription) sunglasses & those green frames look fab. Clicking across for a better look (see what I did there????)
ReplyDeleteI do love a good play on words Jo - and I hope you find something that appeals - free postage also adds a bit of incentive if you qualify :)
DeleteHi, Leanne, I'm glad to see that there is also a Vision Direct in Canada. I'm with Jo on needing presscription sunglasses!
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously thinking about the blue light filter reading glasses for my laptop use Donna - it might improve my sleep after an evening of too much time online!
DeleteI have perscription sunglasses Leanne and splashed out last time with Carla Zampatti Aviator style and just love them. I'm not sure about buying my glasses online though as I like to try them on and see what they look like.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way Sue - but I liked their virtual try-on tool and the fact that the frames all have measurements (which I compared to my current glasses) It felt a bit more "real" and less risky that way.
DeleteI only just recently bought new prescription glasses and sunglasses. I've never tried to buy them online though. Some nice styles there, definitely. Regards Christina
ReplyDeleteHi Christina - I've never bought online before either, but both my daughter and son-in-law are both very firm on the value of doing so. They reckon it's far better value - and I noticed you could still do your health care claim if you have cover - so that was a win too.
DeleteI actually scheduled a time for having my eyes looked at yesterday. If needed I will get new glasses. I do like my old ones, but I've had them for a couple years, so maybe it is time for new ones :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Maria - good luck with eye test and choosing your new frames - it always feels so good when you find the perfect pair.
DeleteThis is a good reminder Leanne, as we age so do our eyes and I know I'm using my reading glasses so much more than I ever did before. I like the green ones too, like Jo, and will keep this in mind when I'm upgrading my readers.#weekendcoffeeshare
ReplyDeleteHi Deb - they have SO many choices and some really good value ones that I'll be looking at next time I get my eyes tested - I saw at the end that you can also claim the rebate with your health fund - extra bonus!
DeleteThose green ones are neat. I probably definitely need to get some blue lights and I only need glasses for reading but man sometimes my eyes are tired after a day at the computer.
ReplyDeleteHi Kirstin - I did a search on their blue light filter lenses and came up with about 590 choices! Some were as low as $39 - $59 and that was such a bargain price! My eyes definitely need to have the filter next time I order lenses.
DeleteHaving grown up in a life of glasses (since I was 8) I can honestly say that they're as much an important tool as an accessory. I usually have 2 that I can swap out depending on how I'm feeling. Even when my prescription doesn't change, I get a new pair of glasses.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same Jennifer - I have my favourite pair and then another pair in my handbag, and another as a back up. I loved this site because there were so many to choose from in a price range that didn't break the bank.
DeleteWhen I was growing up, I was so relieved to finally get contacts as my glasses were always sliding down my nose (read: no nose bridge to speak of). But as I get older, I find that I cannot wear my contacts for as long hours anymore so I turn to my spectacles - mine are also mottled turtleshell-like frames, like your feature photo, but not as exciting as your pink & black!

Hi Ju-Lyn, our daughter has very poor eyesight and wore glasses from when she was 2 and a half. She got contacts in her late teens and loves them - but finds that it's good to be able to take them out at the end of the day and slip on a pair of glasses to give her eyes some "breathing room". She says that the frames and lenses she purchases online are perfect and much better value than when she was buying them locally.
DeleteHow fun, and what a great cause! I will keep them in mind when I need new readers!

Hi Bethany - I'll be doing the same. I'm looking forward to the sunglasses that are on their way, but I'm also thinking that they'd be a great place to try out buying some reading glasses when my current pair are at the end of their run.
