MY SEPTEMBER DELIGHTS
As I mentioned at the beginning of January when I chose "Delight" as my Word of the Year, I thought I'd round off each month with three delights. September has brought with it a return of the sunshine - the days are getting longer and the rain is less frequent. I love a sunny day where it's not too hot and not too cold - just the right balance. That's delightful in itself. On top of that, here are my three delights from September...a golden delight, a dating delight, and a blooming delight, with a delightful quote to round it all up....
I'm terrible at buying myself gifts - I rarely see anything that I feel like I need. That can be a good thing, but it can also mean I miss out on those little treats that bring a little spurt of joy. This month I had a delightful win when I decided I'd really like to get an "L" initial pendant - don't ask me why, I just had this weird yen for one. I hunted around for ages online because I didn't want one that would tarnish and turn green or brown after wearing it regularly, and I also didn't want to spend heaps on something that was a bit of a whim.
In the end, a local jeweller was having a half-price sale and I found exactly what I wanted at a great price - I love it and it feels so nice to have something new to wear.

DELIGHTFUL CELEBRATIONS
It was Fathers Day on the first Sunday of September and although both our kids were nowhere in sight, they both called him on the day, and sent cards with some financial incentive to take ourselves out for morning tea to celebrate - so that's what we did (twice!) It's always lovely going to a cafe and enjoying a chat and something delicious while we people watch. And also a great excuse to take the new car for a drive.

DELIGHTFUL SPRING BLOOMS
One of our neighbours is a fairly casual gardener with not much to show....until the beginning of Spring when all the flower seeds she scatters burst forth in bloom. They only last for a month or so, but they always give me a smile on my morning walk, so I thought I'd share them here for others to enjoy too.

A QUOTE ABOUT LIVING DELIGHTFULLY
With all the awful stuff going on in the world around us, it's good to remind ourselves that there is delight too - and that it's good for our soul to seek it out.

Hi Leanne. Thank you for sharing your September delights. Doesn't retirement just keep getting better and better, as we experience new joys, every day? Have a wonderful week. Christina Daggett
ReplyDeleteHi Christina - I honestly think that retirement is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm so grateful to have ended up in such a lovely position - it may not be exciting, but it's perfect for us. x
DeleteThose definitely sounds like delightful moments from the month!
ReplyDeleteHi Jo - it was a very pleasant month and it's always nice to look back and remember a few of the lovely moments - gratitude is a big thing for me. :)
DeleteThis post was a 'delight' to read!! I'm so glad you treated yourself to a lovely "L" necklace! The gesture alone, I think, is almost more impactful than the necklace. Your 'out for tea' event looks charming, and your neighbor's garden is so pretty! Happy October - and here's to warmer weather for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kristine - I always see all these posts online about what new outfit or Amazon purchase people have made and I'm either too frugal or too uninterested to buy something for myself, so finding something that caught my fancy seemed like the perfect time to jump in and it makes me smile every time I see it in the mirror. x
DeleteI always enjoy your posts, Leanne, and this one was no exception. I love your L necklace! …it is fun to treat yourself to something you really want and know you will enjoy. I liked hearing about your thought process in selecting one (mine would be the same!). You and your husband look very happy with life in that photo. All your photos are gorgeous. This post was in itself delightful.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sue - there's all such small things, but they each made my heart happy - and it's good to look back and think of the nice things that happened during the month - otherwise the days slide by and I forget to appreciate how blessed I am. Life really is very good isn't it? x
DeleteLeanne, I love your September delights. I have been pulling old jewelry pieces out of my box lately, and each time I wear something 'new', it makes me smile. I imagine that must have been what it felt like to you to buy something meaningful for yourself. A treasure. Brunch with your favorite person is always a delight, but I must say, those fries look pretty delightful to me! Flower gardens need no words. Thanks for delighting me with your delights.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne - I don't know why I'm so in love with this necklace, but it just feels like the right treat at the right time. I love that they're not all over the place and it feels unique while still being really wearable. I also cycle through pendants for my longer necklaces and love finding the perfect one for an outfit. And yes...those fries/chips are one of the reasons why I love that particular cafe so much!
DeleteLeanne, I love your 'L' pendant. Reminds me of the time I found my 'Y' pendant. I had been looking for years. Very hard to find anything with the initial 'Y'. Nice to treat ourselves once in a while. I also like your other pendants. Would you care to share about them? Love the photo of the garden. Reminds me of my late mother's garden. So much nicer than a lawn. Also the picture of the two of you is beautiful. Thank you for sharing! 🧡
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne - how lovely that we both have initial pendants - I think they're individual without being too over the top. I wore a simple cross for decades and rarely changed it out, but over the last couple of years I've felt like a change - I found the heart in my jewellery box from many, many years ago and thought it made a nice combo with the "L" - and I always wear a longer necklace with a pendant of some description when I'm a little more dressed up - it just feels like a little added sparkle - the ones I own are all inexpensive finds from craft fairs or online - but I love them. I'm wearing one in my profile pic too - I can't help myself! :D xx
DeleteThe L pendant was just waiting there until you came by ready to be delighted. As was the neighbor's flower garden. And a lunch out, how nice. You made me smile!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Judith - I was SO surprised when it came on special and was actually in stock when I visited the store - a rare combo indeed....and now I'm going to feel like it was waiting for me - so thank you for that added delight. x
DeleteLove those flowers! I just got packets of wild-flower seeds at a wedding we went to this weekend and I was trying to decide where to plant them. Of course, we are heading into fall, so it's next spring really to spread them. I hope they are as colorful as the ones you walk by.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat - she used to have everlasting daisies that popped up in Spring - but these are even prettier with their colours - very 'cottage garden'-ish and you don't see that much with our hot summers, so it makes it even nicer in my opinion. I love the chaos of it. x
DeleteAn L for Lovely & Leanne post! What a treat that garden looks too. So glad you and R spoiled yourselves too! I am a shop by discounts too for any kind of jewellery & now wear a D initial inside a heart. It reminds me to love me first! Happy October Leanne! Denyse x
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've joined the initial jewellery club with you and Yvonne. And I like how yours reminds you to love yourself - something we all need to keep in mind! And yes, a bargain always makes a purchase even more special for me - or can be the last tick of the box for me to make a purchase. x
DeleteI miss the lovely initial gold pendant my godmother gifted me at birth! I had it for years, before I lost it! I'm glad you got one for yourself - it's the little things that makes us happy.
ReplyDeleteCafé visits make great fodder for writers, no? Glad you and hubby enjoyed yours.
Thank you for sharing the three delights, Leanne. I wonder if your neighbour knows that you are showcasing her garden to the world. I'm sure it would make her happy.
Have a delightful October, Leanne. Hugs.
Hi Corinne - I haven't had a chance to chat to my neighbour since her forest of flowers appeared - I'll definitely be telling her how happy they make me when I speak to her next. And maybe my initial pendant is a sign for you to replace your lost memento from your godmother? :) x
DeleteWhat a pretty necklace, Leanne. Good for you treating yourself. Your Father's Day tea sounded delightful (I didn't even use that word on purpose, it just slipped out!), and the flowers are beautiful indeed. Happy October to you!
ReplyDeleteHi Christie - I'm so pleased "delightful" slipped into your comment - because that's exactly what these little gifts or moments mean to me - just small snippets of joy in an otherwise fairly ordinary (but pleasant) life. :) x
