AN EARLY CELEBRATION OF MOTHERS DAY

there are no perfect parents and there are no perfect children - my feature on the Seeing Me Project for Mothers Day

I was very honoured to be asked to write a post in honour of Mothers Day by one of Australia's leading women's fashion brands.  Millers Fashion is aiming their range at 40+ women who want to be vibrant and visible.

They started a site called "The Seeing Me Project" to give mature women a voice, they use real women for their models and aim to inspire us to own this stage of our life - I love that and was so happy to share some of my story with them.

I'll never be the perfect "Mrs Brady" mother, but some how I've ended up with pretty fabulous children and I am grateful for that every day. Mothers Day isn't for another couple of weeks here in Australia but it's nice to have an opportunity to start the celebrations early.

  1. What a beautiful post! I love the pictures. Your family is beautiful! It's wonderful having beautiful memories isn't it? You are so right, there aren't any perfect families, but the memories are so very perfect!

    1. I think that's the biggest lesson I've taken away from parenting - we all make mistakes, but if our hearts are in the right place then there is happiness and plenty of great memories along the way.

    1. Exactly! the memories are what we circle around to through life and they are our shared history - and make for great stories over the dinner table!

  4. I agree, Leanne, there aren't perfect people, but there are wonderful memories. Motherhood is the gift that keeps giving. That's what's wonderful about it. Lovely post.

    1. I love that motherhood doesn't stop once we launch the children - it just changes and some of the effort we put in comes back to make the effort worthwhile :)

  5. That was a lovely post. My son wasn't the perfect son and I wasn't the perfect mother. His teenaged years were quite stormy. Apparently we've all survived and both my husband and I are happy he is in our lives. So is his grandmother! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. If we survive those teenage years then they gradually dim in our memories and the fun bits start to take their place - I'm glad you weathered the storm Alana :)

    1. I love the idea of perfection as a myth Carol - it reduces the expectations 100%!

  11. What a beautiful post! I am in the early stages of the parenting children with three children under the age of 5, and it is nice to read a piece reflecting back. I can certainly relate to "frustrated Mommy"!!

    1. three children under five would certainly make for moments of frustration (and fun) and just think, one day you'll be looking back at the memories too x

    1. It's lovely to see a big fashion store aiming at our generation Anna - the fact that they are trying to be more relevant to women like ourselves is a big plus in my opinion.

  15. That's lovely - great memories, & such an accurate account of what most families are really like. We have a number of things that my sister and I insist happened a little differently to how my mum insists they happened in our family too!

  17. Great post Leanne. Really lovely to read. Surely good parenting isn't about getting it right every time, it's about doing it with the best intentions and love in mind? Sounds like you've got it spot on - an inspiration to all.

  19. So awesome that you're sharing your mid life story, with us, and with the Seeing Me project. Of course I went and checked out your other Article too. I agree, none of us are perfect parents, and our children are not perfect either. But together we can form a unit that is pretty darn close to perfect. And if we were completely perfect life wouldn't be nearly as fun, would it? I love the stories that you told, how you see it differently than your children. It's so funny to look back and talk about things and see how they remember things versus How We Do.
