RETIRING ABROAD: 7 TIPS FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION

Retirement is an opportunity to live a life that you could only dream of when committed to a job. For some this can mean a new life overseas.

INTRO

Today on the blog I have another interesting collaboration, this one is about the things to consider if you've ever thought of retiring overseas. I've had a few blogging friends who are ex-pats and their lifestyle choices have always fascinated me. It's such an adventure and I must admit to a tinge of envy when I read about what they're doing and the life they're living.

So, here's seven great little tips if you've ever thought that this might be something you'd like to do...

WHY YOUR FIFTIES ARE THE BEST YEARS FOR TRAVELLING

The second half of life offers the freedom and flexibility to make travel all the more rewarding.

INTRO

So many of my friends are travelling right now - our 50's and 60's (and even 70's) seem to be the ideal time to head out and discover new places and experiences. I think it's the freedom and flexibility that comes with greater financial freedom and more time to ourselves. Today I'm sharing a collaboration that celebrates the joys of Midlife travel - and why it's such a great fit.

GOODBYE TO ANOTHER YEAR

It's the middle of December and less than 2 weeks til Christmas. Time to take a blogging break and spend time celebrating the season with my family.

ANOTHER YEAR IS DRAWING TO A CLOSE

We're just back from a delightful week in Albany. We enjoyed it so much in March that we decided to return to our same accommodation (it was perfect for our needs) and relaxed by the beach, wandered around town, stopped at cafes and little shops, and toured around the southern tip of our State.

I often read blog posts from my fellow Midlifers about the wonderful cruises they've been on and how relaxing they are. Today on the blog I have a collaboration with a big fan of the cruising lifestyle - and it sounds absolutely delightful. I hope you enjoy their recommendations for cruising for the over 50's who want something a little more special...

TAKING A LITTLE ROADTRIP TO ALBANY IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Enjoying few days of leisurely beach walks in Albany - in the great south of Western Australia.

TAKING A LITTLE BREAK DOWN SOUTH

The retired life for us is a very pleasant one. We live close to the ocean, close to a river, close to an estuary, close to places to hike, to swim, to stroll, to shop, and to generally enjoy. It makes us a little bit lazy when it comes to taking time to go on vacation - we don't need to take a break from anything.

That being said, it's still good for the soul to have a change of scenery, to step away from routines and doing the same things each week. So, we decided to take a little roadtrip down south to Albany. It's a lovely town and it's where we spent our first year of married life - 42 years ago. We've been back several times since, but it still calls to us every few years and last week we decided to answer the call and spend a few days away from home....

5 REASONS SOLO TRAVEL IS THE ULTIMATE LESSON IN SELF-LOVE

cresting the hill

INTRO

Today on the blog I have a really interesting post about travel. I don't write about travelling solo because I'm a bit of a scaredy cat at heart and it seems so daunting. But....I was asked if I'd be interested in collaborating with this post and it has opened my eyes to the reasons why taking off on a trip alone can be good for the soul.

The added bonus is that it includes five personal benefits of solo travel that I'd never really considered before. So, if you're a solo traveller or not, I hope you find this as interesting as I did.....

WHOLEHEARTED LIVING - CULTIVATING AN EXPAT LIFE IN EUROPE

One woman's story of leaving the USA to settle in Ecuador and then moving further to settle in Europe where she is buying and renovating an apartment.

INTRO

Today I have the last guest in my series on Cultivating Wholehearted Living - thriving in the second half of life. Christina is an American expat living in Europe. Today she's sharing her story about how this came about and the lessons she learned along the way. Christina has a youtube channel where she posts updates on the renovation of her lovely unit in Chiatura, Georgia and it's fascinating watching the process.

I'll hand it over to Christina from here....

FINDING SERENITY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD

How moving across the world brought acceptance, peace and serenity into the this woman's second half of life.

INTRO

Today I have the next guest in my MIDLIFE SYMPHONY series where I've asked others to share what they're doing to make the second half of life the best half of life. Cheryl (from Born In A Car) is a fellow West Aussie who now lives on the other side of the world to me. Her life and adventures leave me dumbfounded at times - it takes a lot of courage to pack up and leave everything that's familiar to start a new life in a foreign country.

Today Cheryl's sharing how her move to Moscow was the beginning of a whole new second stage of life, currently more changes are afoot and she's been documenting them on her blog - this is her overview of how her life changed in Eastern Europe.

INTRO

One of the joys of the second half of life is travel. I think every Midlife Symphony has an element of travelling in it - locally, nationally, or internationally. Today I thought I'd share a post on some really interesting travel destinations that are a little off the beaten track. I'm finding that now days when I holiday I'm wanting to get away from the noise and crowds more and I enjoy discovering new places where I can kick back and relax in the peace and quiet.

If you're like me and you like hearing about places that are a little off the tourist track, here's 5 destinations that you might want to follow up.

Disclosure: This was a collaborative post that I feel is of interest to Midlife women.

I was approached recently by a company who is keen to promote the idea that you don't have to stay in a hotel room to have the perfect getaway. Today's post offers five great reasons why it would be so much better to choose a villa experience - more room to breathe, privacy, peace, and serenity. It all sounds perfect to me.

HOW I SPENT 6 WONDERFUL DAYS IN BRISBANE

For those who are followers of my blog's Facebook page (if you're not then I'd love you to pop over and hit the "Like" button to get my updates) you'd know that I've just returned from a fabulous week's visit to Brisbane in Queensland (Australia). We live in Western Australia and I'd never been over to the North East coast before, so we threw caution (and a bit of money) to the wind and booked some tickets and an air bnb and flew on over.

INTRO

I was approached recently by a company who is keen to promote the idea that you don't have to be part of a couple to enjoy travelling. If you're single there is still a whole world out there waiting for you to explore, and solo travel may be the way to go. It may take a little bit of a mindset change, or maybe you need a few suggestions to get you started - in today's post they offer five different types of getaways suggestions to inspire you.

THE JOYS OF ROAD TRIPPING

INTRO

Today I have the lovely Jo Tracey from Rambles of a Hungry Writer, as my Social Saturday guest. Jo is a fellow Aussie (although she lives on the East coast and I'm way over in the West). She is the author of several novels, is a bit of an astrology expert, and I'm surprised she found the time to write this post after spending several weeks swanning around France in an open top coupe and wining and dining in exotic locales. Then she headed off on a long drive down the Australian East Coast (the woman gets around!) Today she's sharing a few thoughts (and photos) from her road tripping experiences.

TRAVELLING, BLOGGING AND LEARNING TO FLY

Travelling and blogging teach us to stretch our wings - and see how high we can fly

INTRO

Today my guest blogger is Deb from Deb's World. Deb is normally from Australia, but is in the middle of a 3 month Odyssey on the other side of the world (she's keeping us up to date with her adventures on a special section of her blog specially dedicated to her Odyssey).
She has been gracious enough to take a short hiatus in some little continental cafe somewhere (that has free wifi) to write for me today. So, here's Deb....

A ROTTNEST RE-CAP

Our first visit to Rottnest Island, Western Australia - sun, sea and quokkas!

FINALLY! VISITING ROTTNEST

I'm a born and bred West Aussie and I'm a little bit embarrassed to admit that, up until last week, I'd never taken the ferry ride over to Rottnest Island to enjoy some time with the quokkas. I also hadn't realized that a lot of people don't know that Rottnest is a lovely place where there are no cars (except for a few utility vehicles) - instead you walk or hire a bicycle for your time there.

WHY MIDLIFE'S FABULOUS - TIME TO TRAVEL

cresting the hill

MIDLIFE TRAVEL

Midlife is the time to go to all those places you have on your bucket list. You might not get to all of them straight away, but it's a great time to make a start and tick a few off. Living in Australia means that most overseas travel can involve long haul flights and lot of money. You can't pop across the Channel for a weekend in France or jump on a plane for a few days in sunny California. It takes a considerable amount of planning to launch off to one of these (very attractive) destinations.

SINGAPORE WITH MY MUM

This is Singapore Week and Monday's post was all about seeing Singapore with my lovely (super fit) husband. It was quite a contrast to my last trip there, five years ago. That visit was a birthday present from my lovely Mum and we did it in style - with all the mod-cons! Here's what I wrote about it a while back....
