WHY MIDLIFE'S FABULOUS - LETTING GO OF DRAMA

A-Z Challenge ~ Why Midlife's Fabulous ~ Letting Go of Drama

I have spent many years surrounded by people and their drama. It sucks you in and you find yourself swimming in this constant stream of chaos where you never know when the next crisis is going to arise.

DRAMA AT WORK

No matter what job I'm in, there always seems to be someone who has to be the Drama Queen (or King in the case of my old boss!) They come to work and pour out their issues and you are their captive audience. They lurch from one bad decision to the next and then wonder why they are stressed, or upset, or angry.

I used to sympathize or at least try to look like I was interested in their problems. But, I'm getting older and wiser these days and I choose to not engage with these people and their mini-dramas. I won't be their audience and the less I encourage them, the less I have to listen to it all.

DRAMA ONLINE

Then there's the facebook posters who have something to "share" with the rest of us regularly about how they have been hard done by, how they haven't received what they believe they're entitled to, how the government hasn't met their expectations, how they know everything and the rest of us have it wrong etc etc. I am so tired of all their issues and their whinging - my "unfollow" button has been used several times recently because I just don't need to know about their latest litany of complaints.

WHAT I'M LEARNING

Another big lesson that midlife has taught me is that I don't need to be a part of other people's drama and their "Me Me Me" attitude. Life should be about getting along together, putting other people's needs in front of your own - and knowing what a need is, compared to an expectation that life owes you lollipops and fairy floss. It's about being kind to each other and giving grace and the benefit of the doubt.

Now days I give the drama queens (and kings) a wide berth. If my radar goes off because negativity and dramatics are happening in my near vicinity, then I move along as fast as I can in the opposite direction. I want to have a full and rich life that embraces acceptance and sharing the journey. There are so many fabulous people out there who are looking for the same thing - I want to spend time with those people and grow into a better person because of it. I want to be part of the lives of people I admire and who are making the world a better place - and hopefully, it has the added benefit of making me a nicer person just by association!

How do you handle the Drama in your life?

"Free yourself from negative people. Spend time with nice people who are smart, driven and like-minded.

  1. I am in agreement with your entire post. we've got enough drama in our own lives without people adding to it. I limit my time on social media. Instagram is a place I am enjoying right now - no drame there and beautiful photos to add a lift to your day.

  3. I have very little time or mental, physical or emotional energy for drama anymore. Block, unfollow, unfriend, delete, ignore.

  4. I was listening to some of my friends rag about others last week and realized that I don't do that. Yes, I've let go of that kind of drama. So glad, too. /Carol Cassara

  5. Hi LeAnn! I so, so agree about letting go of the drama....in fact I wrote a blog post about it too a while back! I think so many of us are "quietly addicted" to it though so it helps to read it over and over. Thanks and have a drama free day! ~Kathy

  6. Leanne, Based on Facebook, I see how certain people are never happy. Every relationship ends badly. They're always down on their luck and no one understands. As I've grown older, like you, I've learned not to engage. Nothing seems to change except your level of fatigue.

  9. Spot on again Leanne. Drama everywhere these days but we can choose to be part of it or not. Totally agree with Drama on line some FB groups are just over the top and I don't need that. I'm also learning to let go and not make my MIL's family problems mine. I do what I can to support her and my husband but as far as the rest of the family goes I'm not getting involved. Have a great day!

  10. It is strange how some people have drama after drama, then I think we all do, but we don't have the self-seeking drama attitude. I just read this in a post I was reading this morning 'By being happy yourself, you’re affecting the mood of everyone around you in a positive way. This in turn will help you stay happier.' I thought that is good motivation to start the day with a good attitude.

  11. Nice post. I think the drama creators are the know it alls. I often find the same person in my thread on FB telling the rest of us how we should think. How we should deal with our children. How we should deal with our partner. They know it all. And these people are quick to tell the rest of us how our techniques and our journey is completely wrong. These are the folks I delete or hide from my thread. There are some days I would like to view my thread without someone telling me that in order to be drama-free, I must be exactly like them. Okay soapbox put away now. :) Thank you for sharing this post at the #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty. I shared on social media.
