HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE TELL THEM THEORY? I LOVE IT!

the "Tell Them Theory" is based around kindness and lifting others up. Affirming those who are doing their best in our noisy world.

LET THEM VS TELL THEM

A couple of years ago I shared my thoughts about the "Let Them Theory" where if people are awful to us, we just let them behave like that and get on with our lives. It never really resonated with me and I explained why in my post (if you missed reading it you can find it HERE).

I don't want people like that in my life, I don't want to have people around me behaving in unkind ways while I pretend it doesn't bother me. It hurts my heart to be near people who do this:

SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT MINDFULLY LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME

Don't spend too much time worrying about the future or regretting the past - focus on mindfully living in the present.

CHOOSING TO BE MINDFULLY PRESENT

When I chose "Mindful" as my Word of the Year for 2026, I realized that it covers lots of different aspects of my life. One of the big ones for me is how to be present in the "now" and to not be re-hashing the past or over-thinking the future.

I'm slowly getting better at living one day at a time. Retirement has helped with that because sometimes I can't even remember what day of the week it is, I just flow along with whatever small commitments I have on the calendar, and let the rest of each day take care of itself. But, I still regularly catch myself thinking too far into the future or dwelling on what's happened in the past, so it's still good to remind myself to live in the present and here's a few quotes that have spoken to me recently...

I MET MY YOUNGER SELF FOR COFFEE

What would a conversation with your younger self sound like if you met for coffee one day?

COFFEE WITH MY YOUNGER SELF

A little while ago I came across a TikTok trend inspired by a poem by Jennae Cecelia where she meets her younger self for coffee and the conversation they have with each other. When I looked into it further it seemed like a great exercise in looking back and seeing where I've come from, and where I've ended up. To acknowledge who I've been and how that younger person's efforts have created the life I have now.

MY 3 DELIGHTS FROM FEBRUARY

MY FEBRUARY DELIGHTS

As I mentioned at the beginning of January when I chose "Delight" as my Word of the Year, I thought I'd round off each month with three delights. They say that February is a bit of a "blah" month, but I find it to be a month full of good things if we look for them. Today I'm sharing for February a personal delight, a novel delight, and a thought about finding delight.

So, without further ado here are my three delights for February...

MAKING ROOM FOR GOOD THINGS TO HAPPEN

GOOD THINGS JUST HAPPEN TO ME

Apparently there's a mantra that's been shared on TikTok lately that says "Good things just happen to me" with people sharing how this has manifested in their lives when they chose to focus their thinking around the phrase.

Mantras always feel a little "woo woo" to me, but my husband (the very pragmatic former Family Counsellor) says that it actually has some basis in science because our brains can be re-wired by what we choose to give our attention to. All this got me thinking....

FRIENDS, MENTORS, AND THOSE WE LOOK TO FOR ADVICE

WHO DO WE GO TO FOR ADVICE?

I read this snippet from an article by Adrian Barich in our newspaper recently:

Never take advice from people who aren't getting the results you'd want to experience.

I skimmed over it because Adrian is a former footballer and I was assuming he was talking about sporting results and achievement. But, he went on to say he listens to his friend's advice because:

GENEROSITY - THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

SCARCITY VERSUS GENEROSITY

I've mentioned before that I've struggled my whole adult life with frugality and having a scarcity mindset. The need to squirrel away whatever income we had to pay the bills and to make ends meet was very important for the first few decades of life. Despite the need to save,  there were still worthy causes to support - the church, overseas orphans, or local charities, and it felt good to be able to contribute where we could.

Now all that frugality has paid off, and we're in a comfortable, debt free 3rd third of life.....but it's been a battle to shed that scarcity fear and to live larger. The key for me has been to learn to be more generous with myself and with others.....

DISCOVERING A NEW POET ON PINTEREST

I find Pinterest to be a great place to browse for pretty pictures, gorgeous couture gowns, quotes, and so much more. Recently I was cruising around my Pinterest feed and stumbled upon a quote that I loved. It was actually a poem and when I clicked on the link it took me to an Etsy site for Ullie-Kaye - and to many more lovely poems she'd written....

THE QUIET SIMPLICITY OF THOREAU'S WALDEN

QUIETLY LIVING WITH THOREAU

Today it's "Q" on my List of More and I thought I'd take a slightly different tangent to my usual posts. A while ago I started looking at "Walden" (or "Life in the Woods") by Henry David Thoreau, and the similarities between his quiet life back in 1845 and my new quiet life in 2019.

Just a quick overview to catch you up if you're not a Thoreau fan:

RIGHT NOW, SHE'S JUST LIVING HER BEST LIFE

AN INSPIRING QUOTE

I found this quote on The Minds Journal the other day and I thought how beautifully it reflected how we should be living in Midlife. It's time to focus on ourselves and find those things that bring us joy - forgetting what others are thinking or doing with their lives, and drilling down to what makes us who we are.

STEP #12 ON THE JOURNEY TO HAPPINESS ~ IT'S UP TO YOU!

WINDING UP

Well I'm coming to the end of the month and the end of my series on being happy again. Winding it down to the final conclusion I came to - and that is...... ultimately you can't expect life, or other people, or money, or "stuff", or events to make you happy. You have to find your happiness within yourself and from your own self worth. If you don't value who you are at heart, and you don't feel worthwhile, then you will never be truly happy.

A BEAUTIFUL QUOTE

I am homesick for a place I am not sure even exists. One where my heart is full. My body loved. And my soul understood.

I love this quote from Melissa Cox, and particularly the part that reads......"where my heart is full, my body loved, and my soul is understood." I think this is the cry of every woman's heart. We long for a connection and a depth to our relationships. The sadness and pathos in this quote comes from that deep longing for one special person who will be our home.
